This Is Your Space: How to Bring Passion Back to Your Training

I'll tell you in a moment why you started CrossFit or whatever your fitness company of choice is. A bold prediction, I know. And here it is:

Nobody really wants to get fit. And nobody just wants to lose weight and tone up.

Why do we train?

Losing weight and building muscle are means to an end, just like CrossFit is to you. Ultimately, we do all of these things to make us feel better. Losing weight and building muscle are just ways for that.

The really big discovery of CrossFit is when we realize we can feel better based on what our bodies can do, not how it looks (or more precisely, how we think we're looking in the mirror).

We may have originally joined a gym because we weren't happy with the way we looked or felt. Somewhere there is a sense of inadequacy. "If I lost just a few pounds, I would feel better."

But how quickly does that go away when we find ourselves in an environment that accepts us for who we are?while at the same time encouraging ourselves to improve ourselves. People around us believe that we are capable of things we haven't seen yet, and that leads to victories that we never thought possible.

The power of a strong community

On our first day we hit the gym and saw superhuman beings lifting monstrous weights and controlling their bodies as if they existed in weightlessness. Now we're part of the same club.

"Remembering why we started and looking back at how far we have come takes a little effort as we tend to recognize the challenges and our shortcomings."

However, over time, that feeling of doubt or inadequacy can come back with our physical ability. We adapt and often forget that we laughed once when someone told us we could do a pull-up. Now we're pissed off that we can't get ten uninterrupted muscle gains. What is it about?

This will keep you positive about your progress

If you are frustrated with your (alleged) lack of progress, Here are five tips to help you enjoy the process and stay satisfied with what you are doing:

# 1: Remember – you are with friends

Remember you are among friends. Seriously, remember. Name another environment where everyone around you just wants to see your success. Do they greet you with a big, happy hello and poke in the office, or do they tell you about the latest fire that needs to be put out? Does your family look excited to see you or are they telling you the washing machine is broken?

Crossfit, athlete

# 2: Enjoy having time to yourself

This is your headroom. Everything else matters for an hour or two each day. For those excruciating twenty minutes of this horrific burpee and rowing workout, you don't think about the guy who didn't write back to you. In the thirty seconds before a PB back squat, you're not wondering how to tell your mom you won't be making dinner on Sunday. Forget everything. This. Is. Her. Place.

# 3: remember the progress you've already made

There was a time when you dreamed about it. You never thought that you would be addicted to exercise. Gyms were for Meatheads, and you were just an office worker. Now you're a certified badass in Metcons, with brand new wrist wraps that will definitely help break that overhead squat barrier.

# 4: Don't focus on perfection

Nobody is perfect. You know that. That guy with a torn six pack? He wished he hadn't blown up on 400-meter runs. That super fast guy? He wished he didn't have to roll so much foam because his calves were sore. That muscle building ninja? He really wants to leave his Power Clean PB behind. Nobody is perfect.

Athlete, body, lifting

# 5: be your own best friend

If that was your best friend who told you this, what would you say to her? Yes, yes, I know it's different with you, because of that and because of this other thing. But what would you really say to her? Would you tell her that you are proud of her and that she makes herself great and that she inspires you? So take some of your own medicine and find out that you are fine. And be happy, damn it!

Reflect on your progress and challenges

Remembering why we started and looking back how far we have come takes a little effort as we tend to recognize the challenges and our shortcomings. When we lose our chest-to-bar pull-ups, it's so easy to get frustrated. We can keep hitting our head against the wall and try to force it. But we are much more productive and successful when we are happy and in a good mood.

So take a deep breath and look at all the great things that you have achieved since you first walked your gym door. Get off the lucky treadmill. It's probably not a TrueForm anyway.

Spa Treatments For Men: How To Bring In New Clients

Men's interest in their overall health and wellbeing is growing, and the spa is an important part of it – whether it is relaxing, self-medication, or taking care of their skin with the occasional professional facial. In the past, spa treatments were mainly marketed to women. But the idea that only women are interested in the spa is out of date and, frankly, a little short-sighted. If you are a spa professional, it may be time to learn how to bring men and clients with masculine identities into your spa space to increase your bottom line. Let's explore the ideal men's spa day treatments and find out what makes an extraordinary experience.

Are Men Interested in Spa Treatments?

Are you limiting your spa's customer base by not targeting men? According to ISPA's Consumer Snapshot Study, almost half of all spa visitors are men, at 49% (up from 29% in 2005). If your clientele doesn't, you could be missing out on a huge slice of a lucrative cake.

Health and wellness are not just for women – and men know it! Spa treatments are a great way for men to get into this self-care. Indeed, ISPA President Lynn McNees says the desire to relieve or reduce stress is the number one reason people visit a spa – regardless of gender. How can you attract more men to your spa?

4 Ways To Attract Men To Your Spa

1. Create a sense of belonging

According to ISPA's Consumer Snapshot 2016, men visit a spa less often if they are unfamiliar with or uncomfortable with the spa environment. There are several ways that you can help men feel welcome at your spa. First, examine your spa atmosphere and ask yourself who it might appeal to. Do your space, treatment menu, and marketing target all genders? If not, it might be time for an update. American Spa's 2020 Trend Report lists “gender neutral” skin care as one of the top trends of the year. And this category will only keep growing!

To capitalize on this development, consider swapping out an overly or traditionally gendered decor in your space and opting for a clean, modern aesthetic that feels inviting to everyone. It is also a good idea to replace the gendered language in your marketing communications with a more universal and gender neutral language.

Another option is to segment your email list to target specific demographics in your customer base. For example, Dori Soukup told by InSPAration Management DAY WELLNESS Magazine: "You should approach men separately for certain promotions." She suggests segmenting your email database so that you can target men and women separately, but also group them all together in your broader marketing newsletter if needed.

2. Let customers know what to expect

Another way to create the ultimate men's spa day is to give clear directions and let them know what to expect. For anyone new to the spa experience, a little extra communication goes a long way in helping them relax. That is why they came to you in the first place! DAYSPA Magazine suggests "easing the fear of the first time beforehand by answering questions beforehand about what to expect during your spa visit". For example, make sure you have clear, concise descriptions of each service on your spa menu or website. Posting spa etiquette guidelines in waiting areas or locker rooms can also help.

Finally, make sure your beauticians give clear instructions on how to prepare their clients for a treatment. This includes keeping customers informed throughout the service and even explaining what to do when they leave the room. We promise – it is better to provide too much information than not enough!

3. Make participation in the spa and booking convenient

To encourage men to visit your spa, remove any barriers (mental or physical) that cause them to take a break. Spa owner Tracy Whynot says DAYSPA that comfort is important for men who visit their spa. Think of: simple online booking systems, introductory skin care options, a men’s specific service menu or pre-set spa packages for men to avoid overwhelming choices. Convenient services will remove potential barriers and allow a new spa-customer relationship to grow and prosper.

4. Customize your spa treatments

Like all customers, men want their spa and facial treatments to be tailored to their individual skin problems! And while many of men's skin care needs are the same as women's (we see them every day, SPF!), There are some differences. For example, men's skin tends to be thicker and produce more sebum (oil) than women's skin. This means they can usually handle more physical exfoliation and may be the reason why men often prefer lighter moisturizers.

Not to mention the fact that facial hair requires special care and maintenance, regardless of whether the man is shaving or not. Because of this, it is a good idea to offer a wide range of skin care treatments and product options to help solve any skin problems you may encounter. Because, as American Spa puts it, "The truth is, we all need to take care of our skin regardless of gender."

Customer loyalty

Now that you have these welcoming strategies for attracting men to your spa, how do you keep them long term? The good news is that the most effective way to retain new customers who are men is the same way to retain every customer: providing a great experience. Still not quite sure what men want? Just ask! After all, loyalty is about getting to know your customers as individuals (regardless of gender) in order to successfully address their underlying needs and skin issues. Chat with customers face-to-face or send an occasional customer feedback survey if you have an email database. This may help you learn more about the needs of all of your customers!

Garmin Lily Review: Bring Fashion to Your Fitness Watch

Garmin Lily Rating Wrist

Garmin Lily Women's Fitness Classic Smartwatch

"The Garmin Lily brings the much-needed feminine flair to a mostly male fitness watch market."

  • Stylish, classic look

  • Pulse oximeter

  • Excellent sleep and wellness tracking

  • Decent battery life

  • Grayscale display

  • No GPS on board

  • No music storage

Smartwatches are usually designed for function and not for fashion, which is why the Garmin Lily attracts attention. With its slim design and feminine color selection, the Lily was carefully designed for women. Garmin hits the bull's eye when it comes to Lily's looks, but surprisingly, the features are a bit short.

The petite size is perfect

There is little doubt that Garmin can make monstrous GPS watches, but the lily shows that Garmin can successfully downsize too. The delicate round face (34.5 mm) and the narrow 14 mm band make the Lily ideal for women. It fits my wrist perfectly and is one of the most comfortable smartwatches I've ever worn. I even prefer it over the Apple Watch SE, which has been a staple on my wrist for years.

With a weight of 24 grams, the Lily is one of the lightest smartwatches on the market. It doesn't put any strain on your wrist and is slim enough that it won't get caught on clothing. You barely even realize you're wearing it until you receive an incoming notification. Although the Lily is small, it offers around four days of battery life between charges.

Creative, classic design

The Lily has a classic design that is more like a luxury watch than your standard fitness watch. The band is delicate and the round display is framed by a thin aluminum or stainless steel bezel that is attractive and non-flashy. Even the sports models that have silicone instead of a leather strap share this classic, good look.

Although the Lily is small, it still delivers up to four days of battery life between charges.

When not in use, the lily's grayscale display disappears, leaving behind a patterned lens. The different colors have different patterns and give the watch a touch of class. The choice of colors is decidedly feminine, but reserved so that it goes well with a variety of outfits. You can wear the lily to work or for a night on the town and no one will know it's a fitness tracker.

Long-lasting but disappointing display

The display is bright and easy to read, but its 16-level grayscale is a step back from the colorful OLED on the Apple Watch and Garmin Venu. The display of the lily isn't bad. It's just not as good as its competition.

The display is covered with Gorilla Glass 3, which is scratch-resistant. After three weeks of wearing the watch, the lens above the display is still flawless.

Robust wellness tracking compensates for missing functions

Like most Garmin devices, the Lily offers numerous wellness features, including stress monitoring and energy tracking of the body's batteries. It can even calculate your breathing rate and blood oxygen levels while you sleep. All of the great wellness tracking, sleep metrics, and widgets you'd expect from a Garmin watch are included in the Lily. Garmin saves a bit on activity options – there are only a handful of timed activities to choose from. While there are fewer choices than most other fitness watches, the activities included are wide enough to cover the basics for most people.

As great as it is at the spa, the Lily lacks some key features. Don't bother setting up Garmin Wallet as you can't use NFC contactless payments with the Lily. It also doesn't have a built-in GPS and instead uses your phone's GPS to calculate distance and pace. Another disappointing area is music. The Lily has a music widget that allows you to control the music that is playing on your phone. The watch does not have built-in memory, so you cannot download music to the watch for offline listening.

Our opinion

The Garmin Lily is ideal for a woman who wants to control her health and fitness with a decidedly feminine watch. The $ 199 price for the sports band and even the $ 249 for the classic leather model are well worth it if you prefer fashion over features.

Is there a better alternative?

If you are a woman looking for a very feminine or classic watch with basic fitness tracking, there is no better choice than the Garmin Lily. If you don't mind a more general look, Garmin Venu or Fitbit Versa 3 might be a better option. Both watches offer an always-on AMOLED display, built-in GPS, and mobile payments for about the same price as the Lily.

How long it will take?

The Garmin Lily has a strong feminine side, but that doesn't mean it's soft. Like most Garmin watches, the Lily is as sturdy as nails and durable. Garmin is constantly updating its watches with bug fixes and new features. If you encounter a problem, Garmin offers a one-year warranty.

Should you buy it?

Buy the lily if you are a woman who wants a fitness tracker that looks like a luxury watch.
