Dyson Outsize Absolute+ Review: the ultimate stick vac

"The Dyson Outsize Absolute+ is one of the most powerful and versatile handheld vacuums on the market."

benefits

  • Powerful

  • Automatically adjustable suction power

  • Large selection of tools and accessories included

  • Larger cleaning head for faster vacuuming

  • Larger dust bin for less frequent emptying

  • Laser sight works wonders

disadvantage

  • Heavier than average stick vacuum, especially when used as a handheld vacuum

  • It takes 4.5 hours to charge the batteries

  • Expensive

There's no denying that Dyson has done more for the modern vacuum cleaner industry than any other manufacturer. It's single-handedly made vacuums stronger, longer-lasting and – if we're being honest – better-looking, and I say that as one person who's had the opportunity to review dozens of vacuums and several Dyson models over the years.

The Dyson Absolute+ offers near unparalleled cleaning.

The Dyson Outsize Absolute+ has a 150% larger dust bin, 25% larger cleaning head and swappable batteries for longer cleaning sessions of up to 120 minutes.

Dyson's Outsize Absolute+ is a new cordless stick vacuum designed to bridge the gap between the lightweight, hyper-portable cordless machines it's already known for (like the V10 and V15 models) and larger, more powerful stands. In this case, the Dyson Outsize Absolute+ has been specifically designed for larger and more carpeted North American homes, so it's been outfitted with a bigger bin, a bigger cleaning head, more suction and an extra battery, as well as some new gadgets like a laser. I had the opportunity to try the Dyson V11 Outsize Absolute+ in real life at my home for a few weeks. It was like this.

The Dyson Outsize Absolute+ has a 150% larger dust bin, a 25% larger cleaning head and swappable batteries for longer cleaning sessions of up to 120 minutes runtime compared to the V10 and V15 models.

You get quite a lot in the package; There's the main vacuum handle with an integrated dust bin and filter, plus a small screen on the back that shows battery life and different cleaning modes.

What do you get with Dyson Outsize Absolute+?

There are three main cleaning heads and several accessories.

The Dyson Outsize Absolute+ with three attachments of its many attachments.

There are so many accessories that I had a hard time using them all.

XL cleaning head with high torque

You could call this the main cleaning head, and it's the largest brush head option in the pack. It uses Dyson's Dynamic Load Sensor to automatically adjust power to different floor types, allowing you to deep clean between carpet and hard floor without having to switch accessories.

Laser Slim Fluffy cleaning head

With its cozy space-age name, this tool must be something special, right? It is. A fluffy brush is primarily designed for hard floors, as these fluffy rollers capture and attract fine dust particles, not scatter them, thanks to anti-static fibers. The laser, which is generated when you turn it on, shines light horizontally across your floors and catches particles so you can see them better.

hair screw tool

The hair screw tool's tapered anti-tangle brush bar captures long hair, fibers and pet hair, but is also designed to prevent hair and fibers from tangling around the roller. This happens with almost every other vacuum cleaner. With its cone shape, the hair should eventually make its way from the brush to the bin.

There are so many accessories that I had a hard time using them all. As for other attachments and accessories, there's a combination tool with a brush, crevice tool, and dusting brush, as well as an extra battery, cable, and some fasteners and clips. All parts (including filters) are washable.

Battery life and charging

One of the selling points of this vacuum cleaner is that it has 120 minutes of battery life. The Dyson V15 or V11, on the other hand, comes to 60 minutes. Is that because Dyson's battery technology has improved? In a word: no.

The Outsize Absolute+ comes with a second battery. This doubles the stated runtime. You'll need to have your second battery charged and ready to really make use of those 120 minutes; otherwise it is about 60 minutes per battery.

Fully charging one of the batteries takes a long 4.5 hours.

Cleaning with Dyson Outsize Absolute+

I figured adding lasers to your vacuum would be about as relevant as adding lasers to sharks. color me wrong

This vacuum cleaner is extremely easy to use and although it's noticeably heavier than the Dyson V15, it's still easy to transport. The tools and cleaning heads simply snap in and out without pulling or binding.

The Dyson Outsize Absolute+ cleaned all the surfaces of my house really well. It drives dirt out of carpets (like dried dog paw prints) and removes pet hair well; It's really amazing to see what ends up in the dustbin. It easily breathes in dog hair, crumbs, dirt and dust on hardwood floors.

When it comes to the two new specialized cleaning heads, I have to say that I was blown away by the Laser Slim Fluffy cleaning head. To be honest, I thought adding lasers to your vacuum was about as relevant as adding lasers to sharks. color me wrong

The Dyson Outsize Absolute+ uses a laser to indicate dirt and dust on the floor.

The laser does a stunning job of making seemingly invisible dirt, dust and particles glow. When I first used it I had already vacuumed the day before and thought there would be nothing to see. Boy was I wrong.

The green laser cuts across the ground surface at an oblique angle just right to illuminate dirt, debris and dust bunnies like small Christmas trees. It made hard-to-see dirt easy to see in both low and bright light conditions.

The Hair Screw Tool worked great. After attacking a dog bed, some upholstery, and then even the carpet, the tapered brush has absolutely no hair wrapped around it; no detangling necessary.

I think I should save some ink for the main cleaner head. To say it works great and cleans a large area quickly seems sort of an afterthought after writing about its siblings.

Emptying the container is easy and clean

One of the nice features of the Outsize Absolute+, which has been carried over from other models, is the point-and-shoot function for emptying the reservoir. After removing the tools, simply press the lever on the side to flip open the bottom of the bin and it will fall straight into the trash. No need to touch dirt or get your hands dirty.

Our opinion

Overall, the Dyson Outsize Absolute+ is by far the best large format stick vacuum on the market today. It cleans great and I can't complain about that. From carpet to hard floors, it's got you covered. It's definitely bigger and covers more area than the other, smaller Dyson models. I will say that it's heavy and especially less maneuverable when trying to use it handheld (e.g. with the mini motorized hair screw tool) but I think that's the price to pay for the performance and the larger trash can is payable. The new laser sight and anti-tangle head are ridiculously versatile additions that work amazingly well.

Is there a better alternative?

Dyson is quite the leader when it comes to vacuum cleaners of all kinds, so is there a better option? Probably not. But if you want to save some money on a similar vacuum, Dyson's other models like the Dyson V10 have similar features and technology at a cheaper price. I also recently tried the Samsung Jet 90 stick vacuum and while it's pretty good, it doesn't have the same power, size advantages, in-line construction or Frikkin laser as the Outsize Absolute+.

How long it will take?

I bought one of the first Dyson corded handheld vacuums about 18 years ago and it still runs great. Likewise, my Dyson V11 Animal model is over three years old and I've never had a single problem with it. I have every reason to expect the Outsize Absolute to have top-notch build quality.

Should I buy it?

Absolutely! If you need a new vacuum cleaner with no trailing cord but the power of an upright and amazing new and useful cleaning head, then this stick vacuum gives you the power to clean your whole home. With powerful suction for carpets, this vacuum cleaner can also pick up dust on hard floors.

Overall this is a great vacuum for my home which has a fully carpeted basement and all hard floors upstairs and I think this could finally give my older corded Dyson a happy retirement.

Dyson Omni-Glide Review: You May Want to Ditch Your Swiffer

Dyson Omni-Glide cordless vacuum test articulation brush

"The most fun you will have since the Swiffer was invented scooping up debris on hard floors."

  • Compact design

  • The swivel head ensures effortless sweeping

  • Can get under most furniture

  • Good suction for its size

  • Shorter battery life

  • Comes with few accessories

Dyson is back with another new cordless vacuum cleaner. While it may seem like a never-ending cycle, this latest one is actually something else. Yes, it's an upright cordless vacuum, but it's specially designed for hard floors. That makes it more of a specialty cleaner than the all-purpose models the company is known for.

The Dyson Omni-Glide is one of three new models the company is introducing this year. As it stands, the Omni-Glide is positioned as a permanent replacement for the tried and tested Swiffer. At a whopping $ 400, however, it takes really serious substance to convince people to let go of their beloved sweeper.

Iconic Dyson design

Dyson's designs are iconic and as instantly recognizable as Apple and its iPhones. The Omni-Glide does not differ from other newer offerings like the mighty Dyson V11 series by the turbine-like shape, which makes Dyson's vacuum cleaner so naturally distinguishable. It also helps that it has the same bright purple and red accents that give its look a more approachable look.

Most notable here is how light and compact it is over previous Dysons. When you tip the scales to 4.18 pounds, the 6.68 pound weight of the V11 Torque Drive feels heavy in the hand – trust me, it'll catch your eye! This makes pushing the Omni-Glide around a breeze, while vacuuming up dirt from high spots with the splitting tool is also an almost effortless process.

Dyson Omni-Glide Cordless Vacuum Review at high tideJohn Velasco / Digital Trends

If there is one persistent complaint I have about Dyson's cordless vacuum cleaners, it must be that you have to wall mount all of the included chargers. Again, with the Omni-Glide, it is no exception, and it is only a pain that it takes to do so. I'd rather have a standalone, free-standing base, similar to the LG CordZero A9 or Samsung Jet 90, both of which come with charging stations in the box that house some of the included accessories. Unfortunately, the splitting tool with the Omni-Glide requires a home of its own because there is no built-in storage space when it is not in use.

A swiffer with a permanent pad

With its omnidirectional Soft Roller Cleaner head, the Omni-Glide acts effectively like your traditional Swiffer sweeper without the need to purchase replacement pads. Instead, the soft roller gently combs hard floors while the vacuum is used. And since it sits on a poseable neck, there is no wrong way to move it around floors, furniture, edges and corners. The Omni-Glide is actually a lot of fun vacuuming because the articulation is so smooth – you can even move it back and forth without affecting the speed of the soft brush.

Dyson Omni-Glide cordless vacuum test articulation brushJohn Velasco / Digital Trends

The advantage over a traditional Swiffer is, of course, that you don't have to constantly buy replacement pads. The soft roller cleaner head neatly collects small bits of dirt and debris, but I've found that large clumps of material or pet hair can be a challenge to pick up. Although there are few tangles visible on the rollers, I have found that hair can still collect on the ends. Fortunately, there is a latch on the roller head that makes it easy to remove the rollers, making it easier to access the ends where hair is piling up. I also appreciate how it can get into tight spaces, including under furniture.

The suction power of the eight radial cone system is not quite as high as that of the V11 torque driveThat's what I expected, as nothing has yet to outperform this model, but the Omni-Glide is still a sufficient cleaner for quick on-site mess.

Only for light daily cleaning

Because of its size and lightweight feel, the Omni-Glide doesn't have nearly as long battery life as some of the more complete, all-purpose cordless vacuums. In fact, the battery is designed to last up to 20 minutes before discharging and must be returned to the charging station. You can swap out the lithium-ion battery for another for continuous use, but a replacement costs a staggering $ 150.

The Omni-Glide is actually a lot of fun vacuuming.

Another reason it's not intended for heavy-duty cleaning is because of the 0.05 gallon dust bin, which is far smaller than other cordless vacuums. This small volume requires frequent emptying. Speaking of which, I'm happy to say that you don't have to worry too much about blowing dust back when emptying the container, as pressing the latch will safely eject the container's contents.

For the cost, it would have been really nice to get more specialized accessories with the Omni-Glide. The included splitting tool is cleverly designed – the brush attachment can be easily attached over the splitting tool – but you don't get anything else. I would have liked additional attachments that could help mop floors, or even some other type of roller to clean furniture, but you only get the combined splitting tool in the box.

Dyson Omni-Glide Battery Vacuum ReviewJohn Velasco / Digital Trends

Considering the short battery life, small dust bin, and few accessories that are most effective for daily cleaning. It's the kind of thing best for everyday after-dinner use just because it's not intended for heavy, once-a-month chores.

Our opinion

In true Dyson fashion, the cost of the Omni-Glide will probably be the most challenging quality. The $ 400 price tag will surely make anyone hesitate to buy it, especially given the fact that you can get a Swiffer road sweeper kit for less than $ 20. That's a big gap, but the Omni-Glide's advantage is that it can collect larger and heavier debris than a Swiffer. It also functions as a handy handheld due to its compact design.

How long it will take?

Like all Dysons, the Omni-Glide is characterized by a robust build quality, although it is mainly made of robust plastic. I dropped it a couple of times and there is no indication of a performance compromise. It comes with a two year limited warranty that covers defects.

Is there a better alternative?

Absolutely! The Dyson V11 series performs much better and comes with more accessories. This makes them a far more versatile package – if you're willing to spend a few hundred more. If cost is a primary concern, that is Samsung Jet 90 and LG CordZero A9 are both wonderful solutions.

Should you buy it?

Yes, only if you live in a place that's mostly filled with hard floors and don't want the hassle of buying disposable pads.

How to choose a Dyson cordless vacuum cleaner

Ever wondered the difference between Motorhead, Animal and Absolute versions of the Dyson lightweight cordless vacuum cleaner of the same generation? Dyson typically sells two or three models of each new generation of its versatile cordless vacuum cleaners.

Subsequent generations will often have more powerful motors, longer battery life and sometimes larger dust containers. Each model of a generation usually has the same engine and main features. These variants generally represent different functions and accessories of a new generation. List prices for the latest generation models typically differ by $ 50 to $ 100.

Dyson typically sells two or three models of each new generation of its versatile cordless vacuum cleaners. Subsequent generations will often have more powerful motors, longer battery life and sometimes larger dust containers. Each model of a generation usually has the same engine and different key features.

Dyson uses the engine head designation for the most basic model, usually with a single cleaning type and a basic range of accessories.

A Dyson Animal V-Series stick vacuum cleaner comes with a mid-range assortment that often includes two cleaning heads and most of the accessories, or in some cases just one cleaning head with all of the accessories for that model.

The Dyson Absolute Cordless V-Series models usually include everything available for that model, so you can expect two cleaning heads (regular size and mini) and the full range of accessories.

When buying a Dyson cordless vacuum cleaner, look out for the features and accessories that you are sure to actually use. Many homeowners buy vacuum cleaners with lots of accessories and supplies, but only use two or three accessories like a splitting tool and an upholstery brush during their years of operation.

If you are sure that you are using all of the accessories available for a Dyson model, it is cheaper to buy all of them at once than to fill it up with individual pieces at higher prices later. However, don't let the bundle price argument sway you if you usually vacuum as quickly as possible and only occasionally get on the edges, ceilings and under furniture.

An Expert's Guide to Dyson Deals and Dyson Sales

If Dyson's list prices are above your budget, there are several ways you can save on the brand's equipment.

  • sales – Dyson has frequent “Official Dyson Sales” throughout the year, often at 20% to 40% off.
  • Reconditioned models – Dyson also has an active business selling reconditioned models at even bigger discounts. Dyson runs its factory refurbished models through full function tests and each model comes with a Dyson warranty.
  • Model adjustments – You can also find fabulous deals on Dyson products where the company carries on older models even after new generations have started. So, if you're considering the latest Dyson cordless stick vacuum, but it is a few hundred dollars more than you want to spend, look back on a generation or two. New Dyson models often have more powerful engines and other special features, but any of the last two or maybe even three generations may be perfect for your needs.
  • Mystery deals – This savings factor is likely due to the inventory adjustment, but we don't know for sure. However, there are times when Dyson dives into models of the previous generation and defies the price differences of the original model. For example, we've seen previous Dyson Absolute V-series models sold at major retailers and even on the Dyson website for the same or less than the same-generation V-series Animal or Motorhead models. You can sometimes get a better-equipped model for the same or a lower price.
  • When the stars align in your favor – Even if all four of the money-saving factors apply, which is rare, the best deal on a Dyson is still more than you need to spend on a simple vacuum cleaner. However, if you want the quality and brand name from Dyson, buying a higher-level, factory-refurbished Dyson V-series stick vacuum cleaner for less than a lower-level version of the same generation is a perfect deal.

Dyson Pure Humidify + Cool Review: Convergence at Its Finest

Dyson Pure Humidify Cool hero shot

Dyson Pure Humidify + Cool Review: Convergence at its best

“You could buy a fan, an air purifier, and a humidifier separately. But why do that when that does it all? "

  • Multifunctional

  • Actively monitors air quality

  • Easy to fill water tank

  • Remote access

Dyson is known for pushing the limits with its devices. And if the viral seeds of a global pandemic were smeared on your phone or lurked in the air you breathe, people care more than anyone about cleanliness and air quality. While Dyson is no stranger to fans, humidifiers and air purifiers, the Dyson Pure Humidify + Cool is the first to combine all three devices in one device. It's an ambitious endeavor that promises to keep the air in your home clean and comfortable. But is it worth the $ 800 price tag?

A strong design

Dyson has a meticulous eye for design and this product is no exception. The combination of the functions of a fan, air purifier, and humidifier is daunting on paper. No wonder the Dyson Pure Humidify + Cool has an intimidating stature. Its sheer weight makes Dyson's earlier fan and humidifier combo aging AM10 humidifierlook picturesque in comparison. It also has the weight to fit its bulk, which can complicate things if you intend to lug it around the house.

Dyson Pure Humidify Cool tip angle

Despite the chunkier appearance, the design is everything you'd expect from Dyson, with the familiar bladeless design, perforated grilles, and subtle displays. It's thoughtful too. For example, I am pleased that it is easier and more convenient to add water to the container: just press a button to pull out the water container, then remove the lid. Adding water to the chunky Dyson AM10 resulted in frequent water pollution.

Focus on cleanliness and health

Outwardly, it is almost impossible to implement all the complex processes in the Dyson Pure Humidify + Cool. First, Dyson's Ultraviolet Cleanse technology eliminates 99.9% of the bacteria in the water in the reservoir. In addition, the sucked in air undergoes a filtration process consisting of HEPA and activated carbon filters to capture 99.97% of the particles with a size of only 0.3 micrometers. For allergy sufferers, it is effective in filtering pollen and odors.

Dyson Pure Humidify Cool Filter

Once the air is filtered and the water bathed under UV light, cool and moist air is forced out by the blade-less fan. Unlike its other fans, which rotate around their base, the Dyson Pure Humidify + Cool swings air by rotating the vents in the bladeless fan – so the whole thing remains stationary. In my opinion, it's a better design as a rotating base is more prone to damage if it falls over.

The fog and breeze certainly help cool rooms down, but it can be a bit noisy when working above an airflow speed of five. Nevertheless, it cools rooms down quickly – and at the same time cleanses the air. How do you know it actually works? Just take a look at the app.

Sensors that deliver informed data

You can feel a breeze and moisture, but Dyson wants you to know that the air purifier is doing its job too. This is where the air quality sensors come into play. They affect indoor air quality by monitoring particulates, VOC (volatile organic compounds), nitrogen dioxide, temperature and humidity every 15 minutes.

The Dyson Link app, which is available for Android and iOS, displays all of the information collected by the Dyson Pure Humidify + Cool and gives you specific information on indoor air quality. And you know what? It's pretty much spot on, especially since VOC levels increase after you've cooked large meals. Let the air purifier run and quickly clean the air back to normal levels.

Wi-Fi connectivity means that not only can you view the above measurement data via the app, but you can also control the device remotely. If you prefer voice commands, it's compatible with Alexa and Siri. If you don't like either, use the included tiny remote control, which can be conveniently placed over the device for quick access. A small LCD display at the base of the Dyson Pure Humidify + Cool shows, in addition to other measured values, the air quality in real time.

Our opinion

At $ 800, the Pure Humidify + Cool is expensive, even by Dyson's notoriously expensive standards. However, it replaces three different devices and frankly has no rivals. Even most special air purifiers do not monitor the air quality, let alone report it via a nifty app and respond to Alexa commands.

It replaces three different devices and frankly has no rivals.

How long it will take?

Proper maintenance and cleaning are required to get the most of it, but it is solidly built. In addition, Dyson offers a two-year warranty that covers parts and labor against defects.

Is there a better alternative?

Not really, especially when it comes to multifunctional devices that have built-in sensors for indoor air quality. You may also find better dedicated products in Dyson's own portfolio. However, when you add up the cost of each individual thing, you will appreciate the value Pure Humidify + Cool offers. For example, the AirThings Wave Mini is an indoor air quality sensor for $ 80. When you add the cost of an air purifier, fan, and humidifier, you approach the cost of the Dyson with more clutter and less functionality.

Should you buy it

Yes. Undoubtedly there is nothing out there that matches its scope. You will breathe easier at home too!

Dyson V11 Outsize review: In This Case, Bigger is Better

Dyson V11 oversized cleaning

"A full-size cleaning foot and 18 cyclones of air make this cordless vacuum cleaner clean like no other."

  • Super suction power

  • Self-cleaning trash can

  • LCD screen

  • Large trash can

  • Large cleaning foot

  • Expensive

  • No self-cleaning filters

The Dyson V11 outsize is exactly what it sounds like. It's bigger than any other Dyson wireless vacuum on the market and, at $ 800, more expensive than the other leaders in the wireless vacuum category. Do its size and capabilities justify the price?

Here's what we liked about this powerful cordless device and what we didn't like.

Bigger and better

Think of the outsize as the older brother of the Dyson V11 torque drive. The outsize has almost the same functions as the torque, it is only bigger. The container is 150 percent larger and is the same size as a container that you would find in a corded vacuum cleaner. This is great because you don't have to empty it as often. The cleaning head is also 25 percent larger, which is the same size as most upright vacuum cleaners.

Dyson V11 oversized cleaningAlina Bradford / Digital Trends

Somehow, Dyson was able to add these additional features and make the outsize less than a pound heavier than the V11 Torque Drive. This means that it weighs 7.85 Pounds overall, slightly heavier than its biggest competitor, the Tineco Pure One S12that weighs 6.61 lbs.

A clean swing

The Outsize is a monster when it comes to sucking up clutter. The motor rotates the brush bar up to 60 times per second at 125,000 rpm and generates 18 cyclones to generate centrifugal forces of up to 79,000 Gs to suck up lint and dust. The six-layer filter system traps 99.99 percent of the particles, which are only 0.3 micrometers in size, to ensure that these little guys don't escape.

Dyson V11 outsize displayAlina Bradford / Digital Trends

The overall performance is controlled by three different modes. Eco mode has less suction power and offers a longer battery life. The auto mode automatically adjusts the suction power to the needs of your floor and the boost mode is basically a super suction mode. The elegant LCD display on the handle of the outsize shows which mode you are in and when there is a blockage.

I wonder if the pull is too strong.

It all sounds good, but how well does it really suck? As I tested, my huskies accidentally took egg shells from the trash can and crumbled them all over the carpet. The outsize soaked them up in one pass in auto mode, no problem, and even soaked up any piece of husky hair without clogging it up. In fact, I wonder if the pull is too strong. There were times when I had big problems pushing the cleaning foot across the floor, especially in boost mode.

Dyson V11 oversized canister and handleAlina Bradford / Digital Trends

The cleaning foot consists of two bristle lines that are wrapped around the roller. It does a really good job of clearing up clutter, although it seems to have some problems throwing small pieces around. I tried cleaning up some nerd candy that I dropped on the floor, for example, and the brush tossed the tiny candy all over the place. On the top, hair and pieces of thread don't seem to be wrapped around the brush. This is a big win for people with long hair.

Clean the cleaner

I really like how easy it is to empty the 0.5 gallon container. You simply lower it into the trash can, press the release button and all the dust falls directly into the trash can. Most other vacuum cleaners, both cordless and not, have a filter in the container that can trap dog hair, lint, and other debris and prevent them from falling out of the canister. This means that you have to put your hand inside to free everything that's up there. Outsize has solved the hand-in-bin problem. When you press the canister release button, the entire canister moves down from the filter. This frees everything that is trapped.

Dyson V11 outsize canister openedAlina Bradford / Digital Trends

One thing the outsize lacks is a self-cleaning tool for its filters, like the one included in the Tineco Pure One S12. This is only a small point of criticism when you consider how well this wireless vacuum cleaner cleans. By regularly cleaning the filter, the vacuum cleaner sucks better and extends the life of the vacuum. To clean a filter, you need to dust it in a trash can, rinse it with clean water, and air dry it, which doesn't take much work.

Battery life

The outsize has a running time that is comparable to other first-class cordless vacuum cleaners. For example, the Tineco Pure One S12 runs for 100 minutes and the Roborock H6 can clean for about 90 minutes, while the outsize can run for up to 120 minutes. The runtime of course depends on the energy mode used, the soil type and the type of attachments used.

While I was doing outsize on auto on a low pile carpet, the display on the handle showed me that the run time was a little over 40 minutes. Under the same conditions in Eco mode, the display indicated that I had about 65 minutes of cleaning time and Boost had about 10 minutes of cleaning time. This is not bad for a vacuum cleaner. I was hoping to see the 120 minutes appear on the screen, but no matter what I did, I couldn't make it. That was a little disappointment.

The outsize also has replaceable batteries and two chargers. So if you have a really big job, you can keep going as long as you want. However, each pack takes 4.5 hours to charge.

Not so loud

Dyson V11 oversized cleaning footAlina Bradford / Digital Trends

The outsize is quieter than many vacuum cleaners, but don't expect to be able to watch TV while vacuuming. It won't blow your ears, though there are moments when you wonder if you have hearing loss. When the outsize switches to boost mode, it is understandably very loud. Fortunately, you don't need it very often.

Our opinion

If you want a cordless vacuum that works like a wired post, the Dyson V11 Outsize ($ 800) is a good choice. It has a large container, a large brush and a lot of power for most cleaning tasks. The suction power is strong and very difficult to beat and the battery life is pretty good. Overall, it's an excellent vacuum.

Is there a better alternative?

It is quite a bit more expensive than the top of the line Tineco Pure One S12 ($ 430) and a little heavier. There are no self-cleaning filters like the S12, but if you want a cordless vacuum that cleans like a post, you can't beat the outsize.

How long it will take?

Dyson doesn't have a great track record with longevity in its cordless vacuum cleaners. In fact, consumer reports found that almost half of Dyson's vacuum cleaners develop problems within the first five years. This includes V-rated vacuum cleaners. I hope the outsize breaks away from this trend, but it seems to be very similar to its predecessors.

Fortunately, there is a 2-year warranty on parts and labor. When I turned to Dyson, they disproved the reliability of the results of the consumer report, and a representative said: “We conduct stringent battery life tests, including thousands of battery life cycles, when we develop our products. We also run very intensive reliability tests where we subject our machines to the worst conditions to ensure that they can withstand the long term use our owners expect. "

Should you buy it

Yes. I would definitely recommend it.

"It can do less damage to your hair, but this straightener is more of an annoyance than an aid."

  • Very difficult

  • Cable loosens easily

  • Expensive

  • Cordless

  • Straightens with fewer passes

You may know it as the kings of the vacuum cleaner, but Dyson is nothing new to hair products. The company has developed one of our favorite hair dryers and produces an innovative hair curler.

His latest product, the Corrale straightenerwas developed to reduce the damage your hair suffers from straightening by half and to reduce the number of outliers by using special, flexible heating plates.

That sounds great, but I was wondering if this wireless hair straightener for $ 500 is worth the hype. I found the following:

Innovation and protection

One of the first things you'll notice about the Dyson Corrale are the unusual hot plates. They're not as firm as normal plates and are designed to wrap around every section of hair, so you get straight hair with fewer passes.

I can totally see how the Corrale would do less damage than a normal flat iron.

When I tried it, I found this to be true. A beat or two and my wavy hair was straight. If you are used to doing multiple passes to straighten your hair, I can totally see how the Corrale would do less damage than a normal flat iron.

Another feature that can save your hair is heating control. There are three heat settings – 330 degrees Fahrenheit, 365 F and 410 F, so you can choose which setting best suits your hair type. The coarser your hair, the higher the temperature you will normally need. The Corrale then controls the plate temperature 100 times per second so that the heat never goes beyond the selected setting.

Battery benefits and problems

Corrale's 4-cell lithium-ion battery can be used for 30 minutes without a plug. This is ideal for people who like to go up and down or have to check the kids while getting ready. The battery also has some problems.

First, the Corrale's battery makes it powerful. At 76.2 ounces, it's very difficult to compare it to a wired flat iron like the CHI G2 ceramic and titanium flat iron or a flat iron like the Conair Unbound Cordless Flat Iron. Both weigh approximately 16 ounces.

The corrale is almost five times heavier than a typical flat iron.

Most people would probably make fun of the difference in weight. It can't be that hard, can it? However, the corrale is almost five times heavier than a typical flat iron. It's the difference between a box of pasta and a bag of flour. Imagine how tired your arms will be when only half your hair is done. Ouch!

Another problem with the battery is charging. The battery lasts for 30 minutes and some of us are not able to do it properly. It will charge 90% in 40 minutes and fully charge in 70 minutes. It is a long time in which you have to get to work. I would say the answer would be to use the cable as soon as the battery is empty (it works when plugged in), but the cable makes the Corrale even heavier. It's 12.5 feet long!

Dyson Corrale in travel mode

One problem that the battery doesn't contribute to is travel. The Corrale has a special tab that you can use to turn off the battery and stow it in your hand luggage.

Our opinion

The Dyson Corrale is definitely not for those who only occasionally straighten their hair. It straightens the hair very well, but it is heavy and more uncomfortable than I expected. Plus, it costs around $ 5oo. That seems way too much for a hair tool if you can get similar results with a hair straightener that is a fifth of the price (and weight). The only reason I can pay $ 500 is if you straighten yourself every day, need to reduce the damage to your hair, and are ready to draw from gravity.

Is there a better alternative?

That is hard to say. There are many cheaper, high-quality cordless flat irons that weigh less, such as the Conair Unbound Cordless Flat Iron. However, there are no flat irons for these plate types. So if Dyson is right and the plates do less damage, there's probably no better alternative in this regard.

How long it will take?

The Dyson Corral appears to be very well constructed in most aspects, but the tab you pull to put it into travel mode appears to be easily damaged. This affects me because the straightener does not work if the tab cannot be used correctly.

Should you buy it

It pains me to say that because I had high expectations for the Dyson Corral, but no, you probably shouldn't buy it. It's too expensive and too heavy to make it a good option.
