Belkin Boost Charge Pro review: My favorite bedside charger

The Belkin 3-in-1 Charger can charge your phone, Airpods and Apple Watch at the same time.

Belkin Boost Charge Pro

RRP $149.99

"The Belkin Boost Charge Pro 3-in-1 Charger can charge all your devices at the same time, and it looks good doing it."

benefits

  • Solid, durable construction

  • Strong magnetic attachments

  • Charges three devices simultaneously

  • Pop up watch charger

  • Fast charge for Apple Watch Series 7

disadvantage

  • The plug is way too big

  • No other USB ports

  • Expensive

I've spent the last four years looking for a great bedside charger. When Apple launched MagSafe on the iPhone 12, that search became a little more focused. When Mophie introduced his snap ring adapter That can make basically any Android phone MagSafe compatible, this search has been laser focused. Now the search might be over: The Belkin Boost Charger Pro 3-in-1 Wireless Charging Pad is about as close to perfection as I've come yet.

draft

This is a flat slab covered in a soft-touch silicone finish that's a bit difficult to keep clean. It measures 9 inches by 3 inches by 0.8 inches, so it's quite large. There are three charging areas: a MagSafe charger for your phone, a charger for your Apple Watch, and a charger for your AirPods, which is really just a Qi charger. I used it primarily to charge my Anker Soundcore Liberty Pro 3 earbuds, but occasionally to charge a second phone. There's a single LED light that shows when your AirPods are charging, but there aren't any other LED light indicators since your phone and smartwatch presumably have their onscreen displays.

The MagSafe charging plate for the iPhone is slightly raised for a good, solid connection. The Apple Watch stand folds up so you can charge either vertically or horizontally, depending on your preference. The Apple Watch holder is also adjustable depending on what size Apple Watch you have. It can be raised if needed to make room for the case, which is an important design flourish. The magnets on both the MagSafe charging puck and the watch charger are very strong and won't let either device slip.

strong contact

The Belkin 3-in-1 Charger can charge your phone, Airpods and Apple Watch at the same time.Adam Doud/Digital Trends

That's really all there is to it. The Belkin 3-in-1 Boost Charge Pro works well, the magnets are solid, and you can charge as much as you need. I like this device (and MagSafe in general) because the magnets keep my phone and watch connected even if I nudge them at night. Sometimes I'd rather have a phone stand that keeps my phone upright so I can read or check notifications, but on a bedside table it's a good compromise. Once I put my phone on the charger I shouldn't be looking at it anyway. The watch folds up so I can use it as a small watch if needed, and that's good enough.

The plug occupies three outlets on my power strip, which isn't ideal.

The main benefit here is that the Belkin Boost Charge 3-in-1 Charger has been updated to support both Apple's 15-watt wireless charging for iPhones and fast charging for the Apple Watch Series 7. I personally have an Apple Watch SE, so I can't take advantage of that particular feature, but maybe you can.

The Belkin 3-in-1 charger's power plug seems to be a lot bigger than it needs to be.Adam Doud/Digital Trends

How the charging pad gets its power is not ideal. The Belkin Boost Charge uses a cylinder plug that twists into the base to lock it in place. That's fine, but I'd always prefer a USB-C port so it's easier to travel with. The power supply at the other end is also huge. The plug occupies three outlets on my power strip, which isn't ideal. I actually picked some up One foot extension cord to mitigate that. It makes my power strip a little messier, but at least I get my plugs back.

Not perfect

Another thing I would have liked about this charging stand is additional USB-A or USB-C connectors on the side. The base is thick enough to accommodate both types of connectors and given the size of the connector it would be nice to be able to connect other accessories. You might be thinking, "This thing already charges your phone, watch, and earbuds, what more could you ask for?" That's a perfectly fair point, so it's an forgivable oversight.

The Belkin 3-in-1 Boost Charge Pro charger works well, the magnets are solid, and you can charge as much as you need.

All of this comes at a rather high price of $150, which is certainly on the high side. The addition of fast charging for the Apple Watch Series 7 is nice, and it could be argued that with this charger you don't need the extra power brick you would need to buy for your Apple Watch charger. Still, it's difficult to justify the rather steep cost, especially given Amazon's preponderance of three-device chargers. It's a very clean and good-looking charger with some attractive add-ons, but whether it's enough to justify that much money depends largely on your situation. If you have the available desk space and the right devices to make use of it, this could be a nice addition to your charging arsenal.

Prices and Availability

The Belkin Boost Charge Pro 3-in-1 Charger is available on the Belkin website for $150. Orders have already started shipping.

Our opinion

All in all, this is a very expensive charging accessory. But it deserves that price with the ability to charge three devices simultaneously and with the support for fast charging on the 7 Series. There's no shortage of three-device chargers available at a fraction of the price of other retailers other than the Belkin Boost Charge Pro 3-in-1 is solidly built, with strong magnets and fast charging. The plug is a bit bigger than I'd like to see, and I'd rather have a USB-C cable with a charging brick than a barrel charger and a giant plug. But beyond that, this is a simple, understated design that will look good with just about anything in your home.

Is there a better alternative?

This combination of features is hard to find, especially since fast charging is a new concept for the Apple Watch Series 7. So while there's no shortage of great wireless chargers, objectively many of them won't be any better. Remarkable is the Ampere Unravel Wireless Charger, which can also charge three devices simultaneously and fold into a compact cube. But the maximum is 10 watts per charger. The Belkin Boost Charge Pro gives you plenty of power.

How long does it last?

I have no concerns about the durability of this device. There are some minimal moving parts, but otherwise this thing is a solid brick. However, the proprietary barrel loader is a concern. It snaps into place, which is nice, but its shape and the tight confines it's in mean that if it breaks, you'll have to go to Belkin for a replacement. However, Belkin covers most of its devices with a two-year warranty, which should be some consolation.

should you buy it

If you want a good-looking, fast wireless charging trio of pads, then yes. This isn't the cheapest option, but it guarantees to get your Apple devices up and running as soon as possible. Of course, that only applies if you need to charge three devices. The target customer has a MagSafe iPhone, AirPods, and Apple Watch. If you don't have all three (or at least a set of earbuds that charge wirelessly) then this is probably too much charger for you.

Keurig Drinkworks Review: Your Favorite Bartender at Home

Drinkworks Home Bar Keurig Black Friday Deal from Press Shots 3 of 5

Drinkworks Home Bar by Keurig

"The drinks aren't particularly expensive, but they aren't that good either."

  • Makes drinks fast

  • Pods are recyclable

  • The mini CO2 canister is a nice touch

  • Long time to cool the water

  • Makes a buzz when switched on

Every now and then a product comes onto the market that makes us curious. Case in point: The Drinkworks Home Bar, which uses pre-mixed drinks in Keurig-style bowls for making classic cocktails. Fascinating, no? It's the kind of fancy machine you might see at a party that gets the host to mix it up instead of standing at the bar preparing drinks for guests. Just who is having a party these days? Not us. Still, could this be the answer for those of us looking to supplement our beer and wine consumption while locked down with cocktails at home?

Full bar service design

Keurig's black Drinkworks Home Bar looks stylish enough and has a black body, a shiny silver pod dispenser with a start button surrounded by a blue or red light (depending on what is happening). It's the type of appliance that would fit nicely on a Carrara marble countertop that's just above the wine cooler in a chic new kitchen.

At 13 inches tall, 3.5 inches wide and 13.5 inches deep, and weighing in at a whopping 27.9 pounds, the Drinkworks machine looks more like a Porsche Cayenne than a 911, so expect it to be takes up quite a bit of space on your counter. Remember, it shouldn't be placed too close to a stove or oven. If you don't have a lot of counter space, you may have to make room by sacrificing another device (heaven forbids, not your coffee maker). You cannot use Keurig coffee pods in this machine. So just forget about the two-for-one idea that may be brewing up in your head.

The bar in stock

Once you've found a home for the Drinkworks, it's pretty easy to set up. There are three parts: the machine, the water tank and the drip tray. In the box you will also find two mini CO2 cartridges (they are really pretty cute), two water filters, cleaning tabs and a set of cardboard coasters with the name of a classic cocktail, a description and a little story.

In total, it took us about an hour to assemble the machine and get it running. Setting up is more time consuming than difficult. For example, you need to run a water tank through the machine, immerse the filter in water and rinse it (change every two months) and insert the CO2 cartridge. You know, standard stuff. Make sure the CO2 cartridge is firmly in place. Otherwise, you will hear a hissing sound. There isn't a ton of CO2 so you don't want to waste it on a bad installation.

Preparing cocktails hardly took any time – some call it a neat party trick.

Of course, like so many devices these days, there is a Drinkworks app. The app syncs with the device via Bluetooth, but there's not much you can do with it at this point. With the app you can register the device, watch videos, read tips, send recommendation codes and of course order more pods.

Once you have everything the way you want it, it's time to make a cocktail … right? Before using the machine, you must fill the tank with ice water and then wait 18 minutes for it to be ready for use. Don't worry, the countdown clock on the LED panel will keep you informed of the progress. When the device is switched on, it emits a low humming sound of 53 dB (similar to the sound of an electric fan).

Is there a bartender in the house?

At this point in time, there are 27 beverage offers and a Stella Artois cider pod (I personally would like a bottle of this bowl, not a pod). Most cocktails only contain one to three ingredients and are admittedly quite easy to make at home. Think: Belarusian, Moscow Mule, Gin & Tonic, Vodka Soda with Lime. There are also some that are a little more complex, contain more ingredients, and are time-consuming to make: Cosmopolitan, Mojito, Long Island Iced Tea, and a Margarita.

The pods come separately, and you can recycle used ones through the company's mail-back program. We received our canister of pods as a delivery, and since there is really alcohol in the pod, you must be of legal age to sign for it. Once you have the pods and the machine is set up, you can start making drinks. Simply pour into the pod, place a glass under the stout, follow the instructions on the display and watch a cocktail pour into the glass. It really is that simple. The drinks came out pretty quickly and we were able to make six cocktails on a full tank.

As with a Keurig coffee maker, getting the pod into use isn't always easy. Admittedly, it took us a few tries to see how the sleeves must be inserted so that the machine can dispense its liquid into a glass. There was some confusion after reading the instructions on how to align the pod. Once we figured it out, cocktails barely took time to make. Some might even say it's a neat party trick.

Taste test

Our test model contained three cocktails: Moscow Mule, Old Fashioned and Margarita. There are four pods in each container. Of the three drinks, we preferred the margarita because it tasted best like something a bartender would make. The Moscow mule was too cute and the Old Fashioned had a strong orange flavor. Typically this orange flavor is more subtle or only comes in the form of a side dish.

If you haven't tried a drink from the Top Shelf collection, you may not know the brand of alcohol in the pod. If I have an Old Fashioned or Manhattan, I definitely want to know what kind of whiskey I'm drinking.

Our opinion

We spent hours thinking about why you'd want a Keurig-powered cocktail maker and pony for up to $ 300 for it. Here's what we came up with: For those with disposable income, the machine is a novelty that would be fun at parties. Some people who like cocktails but may not have the confidence or know-how to make them at home might find the machine useful.

The pods aren't particularly expensive at $ 17 for four pods (a little over $ 4 per drink), but ordering a few different mixes can get expensive very quickly. It's not the best cocktails we've had so the price is ok but we wouldn't call it a deal. In general, the cocktails aren't all that exciting for those who really know how their drinks taste, but others will appreciate the convenience they offer when making a drink. If you have to wait that long for the machine to prepare a drink from a hard stop to the end, the whole experience becomes a breeze. On the other hand, a drink can be dispensed quickly in about a minute if it is kept switched on and the water tank is full.

Is there a better alternative?

As this is a first of its kind, there is no other machine that we would call a better alternative. For those with a more refined taste, it's better to stock up on your own drinks and make some of the simpler drinks the old-fashioned way … or, as you know, go to a bar.

How long it will take?

There is no information about how long the machine should last. The pods have a best drink date which is around nine months. The Keurig Drinkworks Home Bar comes with a one-year guarantee.

Should you buy it?

At $ 299, the short answer is no. Unless money is not an issue. At $ 16 for four pods, the drinks aren't particularly expensive, but they don't taste the best either. It is certainly expensive for a small countertop device that can create a distress if you need to drink frequently.

The convenience of making drinks at the touch of a button is sure to appeal to some people – even more to those who want a quick quick treat at home. The beverage portfolio continues to grow and includes more complicated cocktails, wines, and even beer.

MLB The Show 20 review: Refining America’s favorite pastime

MLB The Show 20 review

MLB The Show 20 Review: Refine America's Favorite Occupation

"MLB The Show 20 is another home run thanks to its nifty gameplay and many modes."

  • Fielding is more rewarding

  • The showdown mode is great

  • More skills than ever

  • Missing minor league stadiums

  • No must-have additions

While PlayStation is the only relevant Major League Baseball title exclusively on The Market, it still wants to impress. Every year new modes and gameplay improvements are introduced that improve the baseball series, and MLB The Show 2020 is no different.

While there are no big selling points like the 2017 retro mode or MLB The Show 19's March to October offering, which makes getting through an entire game season much easier, there are many little additions that make this baseball the roundest baseball game for the PlayStation 4.

The team at Sony Interactive Entertainment San Diego Studios made concerted efforts to emphasize the skills of the players and refine the core gameplay this year. From an offensive perspective, the biggest inclusion is that it is now possible to get a “perfect-perfect” hit when striking. This happens both through perfect timing and through perfect positioning. This doesn't guarantee a hit, but it does raise the skill cap and is a great way to chase a home run out of the park.

While none of the changes completely overhaul the way you play MLB The Show, they all come together to make it the most competency-based entry to date.

There are other improvements available for the defensive game. A new accuracy meter is now available for throwing, which is optional but recommended. Hitting the green sweet spot is not that difficult if you concentrate, but hitting it multiple times during a double game can be difficult. The mechanic does a great job by making throwing more complicated than just pressing the right button.

Catching flyballs is also more realistic thanks to the extreme catch indicator. This on-field red dot indicator (which is only shown for more difficult than pop-up fly balls) allows players to determine how likely a field player is to make a risky catch. This adds more strategy, as it is sometimes wiser to grab the baseball after it bounces off rather than missing a dive and foregoing a double or triple.

While none of the changes completely overhaul the way you play MLB The Show, they all come together to make it the most competency-based entry to date. In connection with zone hits, there is no real scope for mistakes or random elements. Whether a game is made depends entirely on the player's actions. It's the kind of responsibility that the best fighting games have, and it makes multiplayer a real thrill that you can experience online.

mlb the show rating

Another small but significant new feature is the ability to create custom leagues for playing online. These can use either the players' Diamond Dynasty teams or the real rosters, and the players determine whether the league is either competitive or relaxed. Players can change everything from the number of teams to the number of innings. It's easier than ever to play meaningful games with like-minded players.

Diamond dynasty

The crown jewel of MLB The Show 20's experience is Diamond Dynasty, the card collection suite that Sony serves as the linchpin for FIFA and Madden's Ultimate Team modes. The best new mode this year is called Showdown. Here, players face a series of challenges after building a team made up of current stars and legendary players from the past. A player just can't pass some of these tasks before being kicked out, but he gets additional choices (which in turn improves his roster) if he succeeds. It will be a really entertaining mode as the scenarios are very varied and the legends are an entertaining shot that helps them stand out from the others.

Time-limited events are also available to freshen things up. They are subject to certain restrictions, e.g. B. without legends or under a certain number of team ratings. It's similar to the returning Battle Royale mode, in which players work towards a winning streak against other players before suffering two defeats. In the end, these are more pleasant than just competing against other players' teams, as everyone is on a more balanced playing field.

With other return modes like board game-like conquest, the ability to take part in ranked seasons and relive iconic baseball moments and earn rewards, there's no shortage of ways to get new cards for Diamond Dynasty. Sony does a great job of ensuring that the player is constantly getting new maps and devices for the mode, even when they're not using the team they created. The mode cannot be ignored as it feels throughout the game, even if you are not directly concerned with it.

The way to the show is largely unchanged, with the only difference that team affinity is now measured.

MLB The Show 20 Review

Unfortunately, other major MLB The Show modes with the focus of the Diamond Dynasty gameplay loop couldn't achieve much improvement. Franchise mode feels almost identical to the previous year, although Sony has added some customization options, including the logo and team editor, which are already offered in other modes. In addition, there aren't many additions for those who prefer to play a full Major League Ball season with active rosters.

The way to the show is largely unchanged, with the only difference that team affinity is now measured. Your game on the field determines your relationship with teammates, and players receive attribute boosts when players reach goals and perform well in key moments.

The dynamic challenges from last year's installment payments are coming back and are a little more diverse as they relate to the chemistry of a team and the personality of your player. These changes create a somewhat more rewarding experience, although it doesn't feel that different from previous years.

March through October received some improvements based on player feedback. The pace is greatly improved by the additional variety of situations that players experience. Instead of always starting at the end of an inning, players now start in tense moments. This is a smart change, as there is a lot more drama of having a winner with two outs based than at the beginning of the ninth. There are also two new difficulties, dynamic and beginners, that make it more inviting than before. The ability to make more trades through a new transaction hub is a welcome addition as players have more control over their roster. All of this allows the mode to reach its full potential after a promising but rough debut last year.

MLB The Show 20 is a no-brainer for baseball fans who haven't bought an iteration yet.

Welcome to the minor league

While previous editions of MLB offer The Show minor league teams, this year's edition is the first time that all over 1,500 actual minor league players are actually playable. It's great to see these smaller markets represented, and it takes realism as a whole a step forward since the minors are no longer filled with false names.

This addition affects the overall gameplay, especially in franchise mode, where these potential customers can become stars in the coming years. For example, March through October now have on-demand capabilities that allow players to play as a prospect and improve their skills with a good performance. These small opportunities can significantly change the long-term direction of a franchise and show how dynamic the simulation is.

However, Sony has not licensed the stadium rights for these smaller ball clubs. Therefore, the Altoona curve is displayed in a general field instead of in the people's natural gas field with a roller coaster in the background. It's an understandable exclusion considering how much work it takes to model the additional stadiums, but it will be noticed by anyone interested in triple or double-a ball games.

Our opinion

While the new additions are not game changers, they do make MLB The Show 20 the best game version of Sony's baseball sim to date. There's no mode that makes it a must-have for those who have the latest version, but the updated field options make this title a really competency-based title. Without a chance, this is the most convincing baseball experience so far.

Is there a better alternative?

No, Sony has blocked the baseball genre from simulations. Those looking for a fun arcade experience can focus on Super Mega Baseball 2, but lack the MLB license and overall depth.

How long it will take?

Every year, San Diego Studio creates a baseball title that can be entertaining for hundreds of hours and can be fun even after the World Series ends. This year's product is no different.

Should you buy it

MLB The Show 20 is a no-brainer for baseball fans who haven't bought an iteration yet.

Golfer Tony Finau on Doing Yoga and His Favorite Courses to Play

Although he has never won one in his PGA tour career, golfer Tony Finau is on the verge of winning a major championship. Finau has a top 10 result on tour with all four majors, including a career-best third place at the Open Championship 2019. With his way of playing in recent years, 2020 could be the time to finally win one of these trophies.

How 7 golfers train to start powerful rides on the PGA tour

One place that Finau focuses on is the first major of the year, the Masters tournament in April, in which he finishes in the top five. The place also happens to be one of his favorite places. (Finau and the tournament have also been connected since he went viral in 2018 after celebrating a hole-in-one hole during the par-3 competition. Finau found it difficult to do the rest of the tournament. )

"It's one of the best designed golf courses in the world," Finau told Men’s Journal. "If you combine that with the story and the games that are played there, it definitely has to be at the top of my list."

MJ5: Russell Wilson on his favorite equipment, travel destination and advice he will never forget

For his MJ5, Finau spoke to Men's Journal about how he's trying to attack his gym workouts, his favorite lifts, the best advice he's got, and more. Further interviews with Chris Evans, Russell Wilson, Michael Strahan, Tony Hawk and P.K. can be found in the complete MJ5 archive. Subban, Ewan McGregor and more.

He focuses most on the areas in his training: “The three areas that I attack during my training are stability, mobility and flexibility in the whole body. I think these three areas are very important in golf swing. I attack all parts of my body, just like when I play golf. I go to the gym pretty hard to get stronger every year. I try to gain an advantage by becoming stronger and more fit than other players. At the end of the season it makes a big difference – the special thing about the PGA Tour is that it is such a long season and we have no off-season. So you have to train and stay in shape all year round. "

On his favorite exercises: "I like to use kettlebells for power clean, Olympic lifts and squats – but that's about all the weights I'm going to use. Apart from that, I do a lot of floor work. I'll mix yoga with Pilates for the core and then get on the bike. I also use a lot of bands. "

MJ5: NHL Star P.K. Subban at 5 a.m. workouts, starting Pilates and his "big" wine cellar

The best advice he has received: The best advice I've ever been given is "Be yourself". I learned that when you can be your most authentic self, things will happen the way they should in your life. I think we all learn things about ourselves, we are all unique and have unique things about ourselves – and that makes everyone great. That is probably the best advice I can give. "

To travel on his favorite courses: “My favorite course is my home course, where I grew up in Salt Lake City, the Jordan River Par Three. Unfortunately it is no longer there, but I just have so many great memories when I started there and played with my father and brother. It is my favorite place and it is the place where I would like to play my last round if I ever had a chance. As for a golf course that every golfer should play before they die, it's Augusta National. It is a pleasure to be there and play, and there is so much history there. "

About his dream golf matchup: "I had my opportunity with Tiger Woods at the Masters in Augusta National last year and I would love this opportunity again this year. Hopefully I can have this chance again this year and achieve a different result. "
