Kill sedentarism before it kills you – a guide for people working from home

Sedentary life is a major public health issue. Sitting looks more dangerous than smoking, HIV, and extreme sports like skydiving because it kills more people than any of these threats. Doctors state that people have developed a dangerous habit of killing themselves. The scientific community has called this condition sedentary sickness, implying that people develop health problems as a result of their sedentary life.

The Sedentary Research Network published a paper defining sedentary behavior in 2017, calling it an activity of leaning back, sitting, or lying down in a position that implies a minimum amount of energy. Research shows that a worrying percentage of only 21% of adults meet physical activity guidelines, and only 5% of them are physically active for more than 30 minutes a day.

Most people do not know the risks associated with sitting too long. Even if it sounds dramatic, inactivity can lead to a higher risk of chronic medical problems and even death. The World Health Organization states that sedentarism is the fourth most common risk factor for global mortality, responsible for 12% of high blood pressure and diabetes, 22% of colon cancer, 22% of heart disease and 6% of global deaths.

Why is sedentarism so dangerous to your health?

The research found that a sedentary lifestyle is associated with many health risks. Numerous studies have confirmed that inactive people are at risk of developing cardiovascular disease, cancer, type 2 diabetes, obesity, or early death.

Sitting for more than 30 minutes will reduce your metabolism and affect your body's ability to synthesize fat, regulate blood pressure, and control blood sugar levels. Studies show that a sedentary lifestyle can increase the risk of early death.

It puts a strain on your sanity

Inactivity has a negative impact on your mental wellbeing. Sedentarianism is a problematic condition as it affects both the mind and body. If you have a sedentary lifestyle, you are at higher risk of a mental health problem. One review found a link between inactivity and an increased risk of depression.

How can you fight sedentarism before it affects your health?

Fortunately, there are ways to prevent and combat this daunting condition. As you'd expect, the first step is to shake off the laziness. However, since it can be difficult to change your routine at times, here are some recommendations that can help you make the exertions necessary to live a healthy life.
Develop active hobbies
Finding joy in the activities you are doing keeps you active and motivates you to remove sedentarism from your schedule.

Become a runner

You've never considered yourself a runner, but it's never too late to develop a new habit. The thought of running in the park can intimidate you because you have the misunderstanding of running a marathon or keeping up with the other runners. But remember, everyone was once a beginner who walked more than ran. Start by running slowly for 5 or 10 minutes, and day by day you will see your fitness level improve and you will run faster and for longer distances.
There are also different ways to run. You can run outdoors in the local park or on a trail near town. Or you can walk around town, but in that case you will need to create a route to avoid crowded areas. And if you're still not sure about getting outdoors, buy a treadmill and install it in the comfort of your living room. When you buy a treadmill, you can also purchase other fitness equipment to improve your home workout.

Assuming you don't have the money to do this, you can get home equity loans in Canada that are designed for freelancers who need finances to support their work from home. In your case, purchasing fitness equipment is a necessity as it will improve your health and performance.

Plant a garden

When you have a garden, you are busy. If you don't take our word for it, just ask your grandparents how much physical exertion is involved in this type of activity. Gardening is mentally and spiritually stimulating, and if you enjoy spending time outdoors in the sun, this may be a pleasant way to keep active. Gardening is a moderate intensity physical activity that if done regularly can improve your health.
Start a garden in your yard when you have space. And if you don't, there are many ways to get your hands dirty. Ask your parents or grandparents if they need help maintaining their patio. You can also volunteer with a local organization to plant new trees in the community garden. Schools and nature centers are always looking for volunteers willing to help them maintain outdoor spaces.

Get up

As a freelancer, your job requires you to stand in front of the laptop for hours and work hard to meet your deadlines. But even if you're practically glued to your computer, remember to get up and take a few steps across the room every 20 minutes. You may need a reminder first. You should therefore set up an alarm on your smartphone. It will help you break away from your project, stand up to stretch your limbs, and help your body stay active.
Getting up doesn't necessarily mean interrupting the workflow. You can check email, check your progress, or check the printed files while you stretch.

Change your workstation

It helps if you also swap out your workstation for one that allows you to turn your desk into a standing one, so you can work standing up when you have back pain. Standing workstations offer a better ergonomic fit as they reduce back pain and improve your posture. Another way to reduce the pressure the chair puts on your back is to use a fitness ball seat as it encourages physical activity and touches your core.

Final thoughts

Progress will make your life easier, but it will also support a sedentary lifestyle as you don't have to work too hard. But it would be helpful if you made a conscious effort to take action against sedentarism as it can be fatal to your health.

Normal Skin: The Ultimate Guide & Skin Care Routine

Normal skin is best defined as what it is not: neither oily nor dry, rarely sensitive and not particularly problematic. With a complexion like this, you may tend to just let it be. Why play with perfection, right? Not correct. Normal skin also needs a little love and attention. Read on to find out all about your normal skin type and how to care for it properly.

What is "normal" skin?

Skin is generally classified as "normal" if it is not excessive oily or dry and has no persistent skin problems or conditions. This balanced, healthy skin type has even levels of moisture and moisture, even texture, and no obvious problem areas (in other words, you hit the skin care jackpot). Even so, normal skin can experience slight fluctuations in oiliness and dryness – and even the occasional breakout – when exposed to environmental stressors like UV rays and pollution.

Skin types infographic

Balanced oil production

A healthy balance of oil and water makes normal skin feel even and balanced. It can simply do its job: be a barrier, eliminator, regenerator and absorber. When you have that healthy skin type, all you need to do is maintain a great one Skin care routine that we're going to unwrap below.

Hardly visible pores

Your pores are obviously not large (which would be a sign of oily skin) – in fact, they are barely noticeable. Lucky you!

Cleaning feels good

Whether you use a foaming cleanser, balm, or even an oil cleanser, your skin will always feel clean and calm. Overall, your healthy skin doesn't feel tight, dry, or tender.

Minor breakouts

You rarely experience Outbreaks. If you do, it can usually be attributed to neglecting your skin care routine and forgetting to remove makeup and sunscreen or hormonal fluctuations (such as your period).

Minimal sensitivity

They don't respond to new skin care products or ingredients. Your skin tone is even and smooth.

After you determine that your The skin type is a normal skin type. How to take care of your complexion so that it continues to perform at its best.

Important steps in maintaining healthy skin

Normal skin may not have any obvious problems, but it does require proper care to stay healthy and youthful. Caring for normal skin is a three-step process: treat immediate problems, maintain your skin's health, and protect your skin from future damage.

To treat

Treat your skin according to the needs of the moment. You can make minor adjustments to your skin care regimen to combat intermittent dryness or greasiness and to combat that weird dark spot or blemish. Do you feel dry? Swap your lightweight moisturizer for a richer formula. Show up flaws? Add a spot treatment to your nightly routine. Pick products that you can easily incorporate into your skin care routine so you can make those quick decisions at game time.

Care for

No immediate skin problems or conditions? Normal skin types likely don't need to focus on skin problems like acne or hyperpigmentation. But you're not off the hook yet. Even Normal skin requires the right care to maintain its healthy glow. You can focus your energies on maintaining the happy, healthy-looking complexion you already have. For example, a spa facial is still a great way to avoid potential skin problems and improve your glowing complexion. You can talk to your beautician about the Blueberry Detox Firming Peel, a professional treatment that combines blueberry, raspberry and blackberry juices, as well as pineapple extract, to refresh the skin. Your esthetician will also recommend a range of home products to help maintain skin health and appearance. If you can't make it to a spa, we've put together a skin care routine that you can do at home below.

Protect

The key to maintaining the health of your skin is protecting it from drying out from environmental stressors. UV rays, blue light and pollution expose the skin to free radicals – unstable and highly reactive molecules that damage otherwise healthy cells. Over time, cumulative exposure leads to premature aging and the development of fine lines, wrinkles, and dark spots. You can protect your skin by minimizing sun exposure, adjusting your lifestyle, and adding sun protection and antioxidant-rich products to your skin care routine.

Normal skin care

Part of having normal and healthy skin is choosing the right products. Here is what Eminence Organics Product supervisor and certified beautician Alicia Hawthorne recommends for normal skin care:

1. Cleaner

For normal skin, Alicia says that "the choice of cleanser has more to do with preference, as normal skin type can handle a gel, cream or oil cleanser well." Her tips are:

Gel cleaner: Stone Crop Gel Wash
These A gentle gel cleanser washes away impurities without removing moisture from the skin. Stone harvest, chamomile and shea butter work together to hydrate, brighten and balance the complexion.

Cream cleaner: lemon cleaner
If your normal skin is occasionally dry, try a cream cleanser. Our Lemon Cleanser contains lemon and herbal oils that moisturize, tighten and soften the skin.

Oil cleaner: Stone Crop Cleansing Oil
For normal to oily complexions, try an oil-based cleanser like Eminence Organics Stone fruit cleaning oil. This non-greasy cleansing oil removes impurities and excess oil for a fresh complexion. Here's a video on how to add a cleansing oil to your skin care regimen:

(embed) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RIWjfMjWcgo (/ embed)

2. Toner

Cleansing and toning work together like shampoo and conditioner: Toning completes the cleansing process by providing moisture, moisture and essential nutrients to keep your skin as healthy as possible. For normal skin, try a moisturizing face mist like the Stone Crop Hydrating Mist, which uses stone fruit juice to keep the skin clean, fresh and moist all day long. The other main ingredient, lavender, promotes skin restoration and contributes to the appearance of easily irritated skin.

3. Peeling

Try the rice powder based one Strawberry Rhubarb Dermafoliant to absorb oil and remove dead skin cells for a radiant look. The strawberry ingredient helps with cleansing, while salicylic acid gently exfoliates scrubs and removes impurities to lighten the appearance of your skin and reduce the appearance of pores. Rhubarb is a good source of ascorbic acid and vitamins to help fight the appearance of wrinkles, while lactic acid sheds dead skin cells to improve skin texture.

4. Mask

Our Stone Crop Masque contains moisturizing stones that have been used by herbalists for centuries to smooth and tighten the appearance of the skin. This gel mask contains our BioComplex formulation, a booster of antioxidants, coenzyme Q10 and alpha lipoic acid to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and improve the overall appearance of your skin. All you have to do is apply a small amount and leave it on for 5-10 minutes.

5. Serum

Protect your complexion from the onset of drying environmental stress by adding an antioxidant-rich serum to your daily skin care routine. Alicia's Tips: Eminence Organics Citrus & Kale Potent C + E Serum and the Strawberry Rhubarb Hyaluronic Serum. Even with normal skin, you may want to minimize the appearance of fine lines or wrinkles. This is exactly why the Citrus & Kale Potent C + E Serum was developed, which helps the skin to appear firm and plump. To ensure that your skin stays hydrated, the Strawberry Rhubarb Hyaluronic Serum supports skin that has been dried out from cold weather. Have the serum ready and apply a thin layer a few times a day (no more than three). You should be sure that it contains healthy and natural ingredients like strawberry, rhubarb and honey.

6. Moisturizer

All skin types need moisture to stay soft, supple and protected. Moisturizing supports the skin's natural lipid barrier and helps it retain water better and ward off external irritants and stress factors. Again, the consistency you choose depends on preferences:

Light: Mangosteen Gel Moisturizer
The Mangosteen Gel Moisturizer contains mangosteen, an antioxidant-rich superfruit that improves the appearance of the skin and minimizes the appearance of environmental stress. This moisturizing formula also minimizes the appearance of large pores. The formula starts as a wet gel and then melts beautifully into the skin for a smooth, matte finish.

Medium: Arctic Berry Peptide Radiance Cream
If you prefer a medium consistency, reach for that Arctic Berry Peptide Radiance Cream. This daily moisturizer contains an exclusive peptide lighting complex that makes the skin appear smooth and firm.

Rich: Coconut Age Corrective Moisturizer
For a richer cream, Alicia recommends ours Coconut Age Corrective Moisturizer. This moisturizing cream is enriched with coconut oil, a natural retinol alternative and PhytoCellTec ™ Swiss Green Apple stem cells and firms, fills and tightens the appearance of the skin.

SPF moisturizer
To reduce your risk of skin cancer and keep your skin healthy, it's important to put on a sunscreen or SPF moisturizer every day, preferably one with an SPF factor of at least 30. The Lilikoi Daily Defense Moisturizer SPF 40 is a lightweight, all-in-one daily moisturizer that improves the appearance of skin exposed to blue light stress and pollution.

7. Eye cream

Alicia tells us, “Everyone should wear eye cream! The Wild Plum Eye Cream would be a fabulous choice for normal skin. It's high in vitamin K (from iron-rich wild plums) to help reduce the appearance of dark circles. "

8. Face oils

Face oils can be used before or after moisturizers, depending on the skin care products you use. If you prefer, facial oils can be applied to pre-moisturize your skin, or you might want to leave this step until the last time to allow the facial oil to penetrate your skin through the moisturizer. The third option is to mix your oil with your moisturizer. Choose the method that works best for your skin and give it a try Camellia Glow Solid Face Oil. This luxurious face oil contains the highly moisturizing camellia oil, which revitalizes and rejuvenates the appearance of the skin. This oil makes the complexion soft and supple.

Trust us: Even normal skin types can benefit from a skin care regimen, and your favorite facial doctor can help you choose the best products. Visit our Spa locator to find your nearest Eminence Organics Spa partner.

Ultimate Guide For Oily Skin: Everything You Need To Know

Oily skin can be a struggle. There is no greater (beauty) disappointment than starting the day with a fresh complexion that turns into the oil spill area at noon. Fortunately, there are some skin care tips and tricks out there to help keep your oily skin under control and keep your complexion fresh all day. Here is our comprehensive guide to caring for an oily complexion, including a curated skin care regimen for oily skin.

The causes of oily skin

From climate to genetics, there are a multitude of factors to blame when wondering why you have oily skin.

Oily skin is hereditary

Oily skin is linked to a hereditary tendency to overproduce the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which causes the skin to produce excess sebum. We need sebum – the oily, waxy substance that lubricates the skin – to keep our moisture barrier intact, but overproduction can become problematic. Causes excess oil Pores enlarge (as they stretch to take in the amount of oil produced), and when trapped, oil can bond with dead skin cells and bacteria on the skin's surface, causing breakouts.

The climate

Another common trigger is the hot summer months, and heat and humidity can increase oil production. You may be overcorrecting and trying to stamp out oily skin by cleaning it four times a day or exfoliating too often. However, these methods remove your skin's natural oils and compromise its barrier function.

Hormonal fluctuations: excessive sebum production

You don't imagine it – even after puberty, hormones can damage your skin. During pregnancy, menopause, or during our periods, hormonal fluctuations can lead to excessive fat and breakouts. According to Foreo.com: “Androgens are the main hormones responsible for oil production. Sometimes they can fluctuate and stimulate an increase in sebum production. This often happens during puberty, just before menstruation, during pregnancy, and during menopause. "

Hard skin care products

Sometimes, oily skin can be triggered by using the wrong skin care products. When choosing products for oily skin, Dr. Hooman Khorasani, Dermatological and Cosmetic Surgeon suggests that you look for those that come in gel or lotion formulations. “Choosing moisturizers can be a challenge even for oily skin,” explains Dr. Khorasani. “Choosing light or matte moisturizers can be a solution. Oil-absorbing sheets are also handy throughout the day. "

Oily Skin Benefits That May Surprise You

While oily skin may seem difficult to care for at first, you might be surprised to find that oily skin has its benefits.

More resistance to the appearance of wrinkles

Oily skin types suffer less thanks to the antioxidants produced by over-enthusiastic sebum glands Wrinkles and fine lines compared to dry skin types. You won't avoid avoiding wrinkles, but your lines and wrinkles may not appear as early as other skin types – talk about happiness.

A stronger skin defense system

With oily skin, you produce more sebum, part of our skin's defense system against threats like infection or the environment. Sebum is made up of vitamin E, an antioxidant that acts as a defense mechanism for the skin's surface.

Oily skin can be genetic, but oil production can also be affected by hormones, stress, the environment, and seasonal changes. Here are some tips to keep oily skin at bay.

1. Skip hard, drying skin components

Many of the products that claim to repair oily skin can make it even worse. Most contain harsh ingredients that break the skin's moisture barrier. While this makes your skin feel less oily, it often releases even more oil to even out a dehydrated complexion.

When choosing a detergent Real Simple recommends following this rule of thumb: “You should avoid detergents that contain harsh surfactants that remove too much oil from the skin and leave it dry enough to feel tight – and possibly only squeak when you put your finger over it pull. Some common surfactants are sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), sodium lauryl ether sulfate (SLES), and ammonium lauryl sulfate (ALS). “Instead, choose natural and organic products that are formulated without harmful additives that draw the moisture out of your skin.

2. Adjust your diet

Avoid alcohol and spicy foods that will raise your heat index. These widen blood vessels and make you sweat, which adds sweat to your already smooth complexion. Instead, store Foods like carrots, grapefruit, and kale, which are high in vitamin A and slow down oil production. And don't be afraid of fatty foods. In fact, foods like salmon, tuna, walnuts, and pumpkin seeds, which are high in omega-3 fats, regulate the hormone that controls oil production and keeps the skin balanced.

3. Keep your skin care routine cool

Eminence Organics President Boldijarre Koronczay recommends keeping masks and moisturizers in the refrigerator to keep your complexion cool and oil-free. He says, "When you apply products straight from the refrigerator, your skin temperature will stay lower, which will reduce excess oil production."

A Guide to Buy Scented Hand Sanitizer

Maintaining good hygiene is a reliable way to ensure that you stay away from dangerous insects when exposed to contaminated surfaces. Without knowing it, you can touch your eyes, nose or mouth after coming into contact with invisible germs. Your hands become carriers of infectious viruses. In order not to fall victim to the latter, disinfect your palms consistently.

If you cannot find easy access to washing your hands with soap and water, especially when traveling, a scented hand sanitizer becomes your safety shield. In general, hand sanitizers are classified as:

  • Alcohol-based with an alcohol content of approx. 70% balances the microbes present

Alcohol-free while destroying the harmful microorganisms and preventing your skin from drying out

Because an alcohol-based disinfectant is effective, it removes germs more effectively than its alcohol-based counterparts. The best way to apply disinfectant is to put a few drops on your hand and rub them until your skin absorbs them. Make sure you coat the back of your palms and also massage between your fingers so that the disinfectant does its job.

Renowned manufacturers sell high quality hand sanitizer in compact containers with greater portability. These are either available as:

  • Gels in strawberry and aloe vera fragrances that make it easier to control the amount of disinfectant dispensed.
  • Sprays that deliver disinfectant in liquid form so you can squirt twice or three times for better coverage.

Here is a guide to help you find the most effective source scented hand sanitizer::

On the way to reliable brands

Brands that focus on not harming the end user's skin health while using their products have their principles in the right place. You can rest assured that the quality product you are sourcing is cruelty free and made using natural formulas to ensure the cleanest results. Online reviews give you valuable insight into the advantages and disadvantages of brand name disinfectants. Scan such feedback to spot alarming side effects like skin irritation, residue, etc.

Examine the ingredients used

If you read the product label, you will get a notice of the ingredients. Buying an alcohol-based disinfectant that also has antiviral and antibacterial properties is a smart move.

If you have sensitive skin, you need a hand sanitizer that won't cause inflammation or allergic reactions. Using excellent quality ingredients with a pure formulation is a safe choice for disinfectants.

Check the expiration date

The alcohol content in the disinfectant gradually evaporates the longer you keep it. It is beneficial to confirm that the product you have purchased is within the expiry date or it will be ineffective at fighting bacteria.

Real hand sanitisers expire about three years after their date of manufacture. Medical experts recommend an alcohol concentration between 60% and 95%, as this effectively keeps your hands free of germs. If the alcohol content falls below 60%, the disinfectant is not harmful, but almost 90% less effective.

Since alcohol is highly flammable, keep your disinfectant in a cool place and out of the reach of young children. Find the right balance between a quality product and its price.

Specialized manufacturers of hand disinfectants source their ingredients in an ethical manner and adhere to the highest international standards during production. Make an informed choice and you will not have any complaints whatsoever.

Ultimate Guide For Dry Skin: Causes, Treatment and Skin Care Routine

Does your skin feel rough and flaky all year round? Everyone's skin suffers from dryness on occasion, but a more persistent struggle can be a symptom of your skin type. Read on to learn more about dry skin and find our recommendations for reducing and relieving dryness.

What causes skin dryness?

Like all skin types, dry skin is genetic. It is characterized by an insufficient supply of sebum (which lubricates the skin) and lipids (which keep the skin's moisture barrier intact). Without these essential materials, the skin loses its ability to produce and store sufficient moisture. On the surface, this deficiency shows up as dry, flaky skin and a dull complexion.

The skin also becomes thinner and drier with age. Over time, the skin's hyaluronic acid stores decrease due to the body's natural aging processes. This naturally occurring substance, which attracts and retains moisture, is critical to keeping the skin soft and supple.

As the hyaluronic acid wears off, the skin loses its ability to hold onto hydration and becomes drier and more brittle.

Dry skin is often confused with dehydration, but they really are very different. While dehydration is preventable and easy to treat, dry skin is a skin type that requires ongoing maintenance to be cared for. You can get stuck with dry skin, but the right skin care routine can make a world of difference.

How to treat dry skin

Dry skin can be made worse by external factors such as hormones, environmental stress, and seasonal changes. Here are some simple ways to keep dry skin soft and plump.

1. Moisten

Moisturizers are a breeze for caring for dry skin. Oil-based ointments, creams, and lotions that are high in essential fatty acids (EFAs) make up for the lack of oil and lipids in dry skin. They lubricate the skin's surface and strengthen the skin's moisture barrier. They help replenish and lock in the much-needed moisture.

Pro tip: Apply moisturizer while your skin is still slightly damp to lock in extra moisture.

2. Monitor your water temperature

Extreme temperatures can worsen an already dry complexion by stripping the skin of essential oils. Joshua Draftsman, M.D.tells EVEN: "The water in your shower should be the temperature you would imagine for a heated pool – about 84 degrees Fahrenheit." If hot showers are non-negotiable, limit them to no more than ten minutes to protect dry skin.

The water in your shower should be the temperature you would imagine for a heated pool – about 84 degrees Fahrenheit.

3. Use gentle ingredients

Like extreme temperatures, harsh cosmetic ingredients can compromise the skin's moisture barrier, causing dryness and irritation. To protect your skin, avoid products that contain chemical ingredients such as parabens, petrolatum, mineral oils, propylene glycol, or sodium lauryl sulfate.

4. Protect your skin in winter

Dry winter air also contributes to the dryness of the skin. In the winter months there is less moisture in the air, which means that the moisture in your skin evaporates faster. To compensate, Harvard Health recommends using a humidifier and setting it to around 60%. This is enough to replenish the lost moisture in the top layer of skin.

5. Adjust your diet

You can improve your skin's ability to retain moisture by adding healthy fats to your diet. Omega-3 and Omega-6 oils support skin health by fighting inflammation and strengthening the skin's moisture barrier. Some of the foods to add to your shopping list include salmon, flaxseed, walnuts, and sunflower seeds.

Dry skin care routine

One of the best ways to combat dry skin is to tailor your skin care regimen to include moisture-rich products that will replenish and repair. We recommend the following routine to heal and soothe dry skin.

1. Cleaning

First, remove any contamination with a gentle oil-based cleaner. Eminence Organics Product Support Representative Alicia Hawthorne recommends Wildflower Cleansing Balm. Formulated with poppy seed oil and elderflower, this transforming yellow balm replenishes lost moisture and soothes redness caused by dryness.

2. Peeling (weekly)

Alicia recommends a weekly scrub to "watch out for dandruff!" A gentle scrub like Strawberry Rhubarb Dermafoliant is the best choice for a dry complexion. Containing lactic acid, rice and chickpea flour, this physical and chemical scrub removes dead skin cells and smoothes out rough, dry skin.

3rd tone

Think of toner as a "conditioner" for your detergent. A product like ours Stone Crop Hydrating Mist contains nourishing ingredients like Stone Crop, Lavender and Jasmine to restore moisture and soothe dry skin.

4. Treat

When it comes to Alicia chooses an oil, concentrate, or serum for dry skin and recommends reaching for a product that is high in both fatty acids and anti-inflammatory ingredients. Her suggestion is Facial Recovery Oil, which contains soothing and nourishing oils that heal dry skin.

5. Moisturize

Choose an oil-rich cream that will replenish moisture and repair your skin's lipid barrier. Our Coconut Age Corrective Moisturizer contains deeply moisturizing coconut oil and shea butter. Shea butter in particular is an excellent emollient for the skin; It is rich in triglycerides and fatty acids that help restore and retain moisture.
