Everyone’s Bike: The NordicTrack S22i Review

When I got the chance to review the NordicTrack S22i Studio Cycle, of course I said yes. I had recently been looking for a home biking option during the rainy winter months in Oregon so it was an exciting prospect to try this bike out. Indoor exercise machines have come a long way since I was in my early 20s, and there are plenty of affordable options for those who want to occasionally skip the gym or try their own exercise program.

NordicTrack has been in business as a brand for a very long time. In fact, my 12 year old treadmill is a NordicTrack (and it still works perfectly). NordicTrack has a long tradition of developing durable, high quality products for gyms and home use. Of those I spoke to, NordicTrack is a household name and is widely recognized by the average Joes to the fitness enthusiast. Most agree that there is a place in the home for stationary devices.

About the NordicTrack S22i studio cycle

The S22i is a fully adjustable stationary bike. It has an adjustable 22-inch touchscreen with two digitally amplified speakers and an aux connection. There is also an HDMI option for use with a TV, but you may not need it as the monitor can be tilted and also rotated 360 degrees.

The bike uses WiFi to connect to NordicTrack's iFit programming, which houses all of the training sessions. Use the touchscreen to keep track of your stats, adjust the volume, and more. The monitor also includes an adjustable AutoBreeze fan so you can feel the wind on your face while driving in the hot mountains of Chile.

The flywheel is inertia enhanced and features SMR (Silent Magnetic Resistance) technology, so turning is very quiet. Leveling feet are attached to the base to keep the bike stable during exercise. The frame is made of standard steel and is designed for riders up to 350 lbs.

Every part of the bike is adjustable, from the saddle position to the handlebars, and the ergonomics are easy to adapt to different body types. The bike comes with normal bike pedals and straps, but can be replaced with pedals of your choice.

The S22i's multi-position handlebar starts near the seat of the bike for closer hand positioning and goes up near the screen where adjustable OneTouch controls on the handlebars for manual resistance (24 levels) and incline settings from -10% to 20. sit %. The handlebars also have a non-slip grip.

The saddle is vertically and horizontally adjustable to accommodate a range of interior seams and comfort levels.

The Studio Cycle comes with a one-year iFit membership that gives you access to hundreds of rides of all types – studio, beginner, mountain bike, road bike – and includes off-the-bike training options. Additionally, the S22i comes with two 3 pound dumbbells that are used in some of the workouts that are guaranteed to make you thirsty, so it's a good thing that there are two places for water bottles.

Workouts include bootcamp style workouts, high energy studio sessions, instructor-led global workouts, incline cycling, yoga, and full body options, among others. There are almost every type of ride and level of difficulty along with varying options for the length of the rides, some as short as 20 minutes, some longer.

The frame of the S22i is 56.9 inches high, 55 inches long and 21.9 inches wide, making it small enough for living or storage in an apartment when needed. The bike only needs a normal socket for the power supply and, if necessary, can be easily moved using small wheels attached to the frame. There is a 3-year parts guarantee and a 1-year labor guarantee in case something should happen.

NordicTrack iFit programming

Once you are connected to the WiFi and logged into your account, the user has a variety of programs to choose from. New workouts are uploaded every day and there are a variety of trainers to choose from depending on your mood or goals.

The programs all offer interactive training so that the trainer adjusts the incline and resistance for the training units as the program progresses. You can override this feature at any time during your workout, but you will most likely meet your calorie and wattage goals if you are able to keep up with the cadence and let the bike adapt to you.

IFit programming uses Google Maps so you can see parts of the world that you might not otherwise see during your training rides. With your login, your stats are tracked and show weekly totals along with trips. The program is easy to use, so four profiles per membership can be created so the whole family can keep track of their stats.

Prices and delivery

The S22i is priced at $ 2999 (there is currently a $ 1000 discount on shopping cart) and includes a one-year membership to iFit. There are also funding options.

There is an option to ship and install the white glove for $ 249 – this includes shipping, assembly, and installation. If you choose not to use the delivery service, shipping is free and there is a general 30-day return policy.

So what did I think?

This is a great looking bike. The quality of the frame and the components are all very good. The engineering behind the design is well researched and planned. Everything you need is at your fingertips while spinning. So whenever you need to grab your weights, have a sip of water, or adjust the resistance, everything is readily available.

I think the workouts available on iFit are really fabulous – there really is something for everyone at every level. There are a wide variety of coaches, some of whom are former Olympic athletes. When you ride you feel like you are with them. All of the trainers are encouraging for the duration of any workout, and all of them are great at communicating cadence and positioning while riding so that you can get the most out of the workout.

The seat, as I expected, took some getting used to. It can easily be exchanged for a different type of seat if this does not meet your requirements. On the third ride, I didn't even notice the seat. My first rides were with the pedals and straps that came with it.

They are high quality components, but for my preference I swapped these out for clip-in pedals and while getting a lot out of the workouts initially, the clip-ins made a big difference in my ability to keep up with what it took to do some workouts Cadence. If you do decide to buy an S22i, I highly recommend installing clip-in pedals – they were quick to replace, only a few minutes.

The bike is stable while driving and does not feel thin or light when you get up and sit down quickly. The handlebar offers a comfortable grip and grip, regardless of whether you are standing or sitting. At first I couldn't move the handlebar up and down, but I found that the adjustment required more force as the monitor is part of the handlebar assembly. It's easy, but some pressure needs to be applied. The seat adjustment is much easier as there is no weight on the part that slides into the frame.

The fan works well and the screen responds very well to touch while driving. The background music can be set separately from the trainer's voice so that you can hear as little or as much of it as you want during your workout.

At the top of the screen, your stats are displayed as you drive so you know where you are while you are driving. At the end of the journey, your total values are calculated and displayed. Before and after each training there is a separate warm-up and cool-down every few minutes. Some of the workouts also include warm-up and cool-down instructions.

One thing that I noticed is that the sound surprised me the first time I set the slope. It is not silent like spinning. It works very well and is part of the workout so after the first couple of listening sessions I got used to the sound. Also, I should be pedaling hard enough that I can only hear the instructor's instructions, right?

The bike can also be used manually. So if you decide against exercising, you can still use it as a normal ergometer. One cool thing is that the HDMI cable allows you to play the ride on your TV. I have a separate good old spinning wheel and my daughter sometimes jumps on it and rides next to me, and that makes it even more fun.

S22i in the Homebase view.

The bottom line

In my opinion, this bike is well worth the money. Together with the 30-day return policy, you really can't go wrong if you don't like it. It's great fun and I look forward to using it every time. This is an excellent buy and I don't see any downside to this bike. Everything works as it should and as advertised.

Two very enthusiastic thumbs up from me.

NordicTrack Vault Review: Ample Storage, Arduous Workouts

Nordictrack Vault Smart Fitness Mirror News Specifications ces 2021 Lifestyle

NordicTrack Vault Review: A Successful Home Fitness and Smart Mirror Combo

RRP $ 1,999.00

"NordicTrack Vault comes with the weights you need in a smart home gym and conveniently stores them."

advantages

  • Beautiful reflective mirror that can be swiveled through 360 degrees

  • Growing class library

  • Generous storage space

  • Quality dumbbells / kettlebells

disadvantage

  • No form monitoring

  • Can be difficult / bulky to move

When it comes to fitness equipment, NordicTrack is the leader. Known for its ski equipment and treadmills, the company expanded its product range to include elliptical trainers, strength machines and finally smart home gyms. Now NordicTrack is pushing forward again with the Vault, a combination of home fitness and smart mirror devices. How is it doing compared to the competition? We tested the Vault to find out.

Convenient storage, reasonable size

NordicTrack did a great job with the size of the Vault. The bookcase-sized closet is big enough to hold all of the kettlebells and dumbbells you need without taking up too much space in your house. It's free-standing, which is perfect for apartment residents who are unlikely to be able to permanently install a smart mirror on the wall. At six feet tall, two feet wide, and just over a foot deep, the Vault can squeeze into any corner of your room. It also has a brushed metal finish and mirror front that is attractive enough to work in any room. However, choose your location carefully as the vault is heavy and can be difficult to move without an extra hand or two.

Everything is a mirror, no form

The NordicTrack Vault has a nearly full length 61.5 "reflective mirror and a 32" touchscreen display that allows you to easily observe the instructors and mirror their shape as they train. Unlike other smart gyms, the Vault doesn't provide any feedback on your shape, which is a huge downside. You need to rely on your keen eye to make sure you are doing the exercises correctly and keeping the pace.

The front mirror has an excellent 360 degree hinge. You can swing open the mirror in tight spaces like a door to access the dumbbells / kettle bells and exercise right in front of the vault with the mirror closed. When you have more space, you can extend and angle the mirror so you can exercise anywhere in your room.

Market leading exercise library

The Vault is operated by iFit, which has a growing library of exercises broken down into categories such as strength, yoga, recovery / mobility / stretching, and high-intensity interval training (HIIT). And iFit was the only motivator that kept me on the treadmill all winter, so it's not surprising that it was the feature that got me to use the Vault.

iFit hires some of the best coaches and videographers out there.

It's also important to note that iFit is hiring some of the best trainers and videographers out there – and it shows. The video quality is great as most of the exercises were filmed either in a studio-style gym or in a scenic outdoor location. The videographers take the time to capture just the right camera angles so you can see the movement.

The coaches are optimistic and encouraging without being intrusive. Especially in the beginner workouts, the trainers give detailed instructions for each exercise that are easy to follow. In most cases, practice the exercises first before doing them during an intense workout.

New exercises and trainers are also added to iFit on a regular basis. You will keep coming back to see what fresh new workouts are in the library now.

Learning while lifting

While iFit offers a wide variety of content, it isn't the only profitable feature. It excels in teaching you how to exercise. I can't tell you how many times in the past I've picked up my dumbbells to start a strength training program and then stopped a few weeks later because I knew very few exercises. I made minimal progress and was bored with the routine.

Man training in front of NordicTrack Vault.

The iFit training programs took away all of my uncertainty. I learned how to properly use kettlebells and when to use dumbbells. The trainers taught me several exercises for each muscle group and switched through different activities to work my whole body instead of just my arms and shoulders. I didn't just train; I also learned how to exercise. Unlike the Tonal home studio, which mainly focused on strength, the Vault has improved my overall fitness and wellbeing.

price

The NordicTrack Vault is available in two versions – a base option for $ 1,999 without accessories, or a full option for $ 2,999 with dumbbells, kettlebells, resistance bands and more. Although expensive, the full package is the best value for money for those who don't already own free weights.

NordicTrack Vault mirror pushed aside.

The NordicTrack Vault is operated by iFit, which requires a subscription. The vault comes with a free year of iFit, and you can add a subscription for just $ 15 per month. It's important to note that iFit compares favorably with the competition, some of which are charging $ 40 or more per month. And iFit works with all of your fitness equipment too, so you can use the same subscription on your treadmill and Vault at the same time.

Our opinion

The NordicTrack Vault is a modern storage system for your fitness equipment and, thanks to its growing iFit workout library, a powerful fitness device. With its professional trainers, high quality videos and variety of training courses, iFit sets the Vault apart from the competition. If you already own an iFit treadmill or bike, the Vault is a must-have fitness companion.

Is there a better alternative?

The Vault's closest competitor is the Lululemon Mirror, which is smaller and more stylish than the Vault. It also offers more live and on-demand classes than the Vault at this point. However, the mirror does not include the kettlebells, dumbbells, and resistance bands that come with the full package option of the Vault. It also has no memory for these free weights. After buying weights, you will have to awkwardly leave them on the floor or spend even more money to buy a special rack.

There's also the Tempo Studio, which, similar to the Vault, hides some of the weights and accessories inside its case. While not that attractive, the Tempo Studio provides tracking for the right shape.

How long it will take?

The NordicTrack Vault has a sturdy construction that will last for several years. The weak point of the Vault is its full-length mirror. It doesn't break or scratch easily – we hit it multiple times with no damage – but a hard impact could break the glass.

The iFit software will do it. The company is known for its regular updates that add new workout programs and new features to NordicTrack fitness equipment.

Should you buy it?

The Nordic Track Vault is an excellent option for anyone looking to build a home gym for general fitness. The stylish machine contains a full range of dumbbells and kettlebells and has a growing library of exercises for all abilities and levels.

NordicTrack X32i Treadmill Review: Immersive Workouts At Home

nordictrack x32i treadmill review press lifestyle

NordicTrack X32i Treadmill Review: Immersive training in your home gym

"With killer gradients and iFit training, the NordicTrack X32i treadmill will change the way you train."

  • Impressive gradient of 40 percent

  • Wide and sturdy deck

  • Large 32-inch display

  • Padded for powerful running

  • Effective iFit video training

  • The iFit-controlled interface needs to be improved

  • Does not fold for storage

Mention the word treadmill to a runner, especially a long-distance runner, and he will wince. They will also tell you that there are no treadmills, just Deadmills, an indication of the nerve-racking boredom you experience when you walk or run for hours with your wall as a backdrop.

NordicTrack tries to change this negative perception by bundling its treadmills with iFit, a comprehensive video training program with real trainers working by your side, and the ability to run virtually in breathtaking locations around the world. Does iFit heal you from treadmill blues? We tested NordicTrack's newest treadmill, the NordicTrack x32i, in our home gym for six months to find out.

Powerful hardware for steep climbs

The NordicTrack x32i treadmill is a dream to run and walk. It has a wide and long deck (22 x 65 inches) that gives you plenty of room to run, walk, and even bypass your way to fitness. It cannot be folded for storage. So make sure you have enough space wherever you want to use it.

NordicTrack X32i inclination

The deck is designed for highly effective exercises and features NordicTrack's reflex cushioning, which offers a slight jump to absorb the impact with every step. The reinforced steel frame is solidly built and the 4.25 KWK DurX Commercial Plus engine has a lot of power. It goes from zero to 12 miles an hour and supports up to 300 pounds. I never felt like I was pushing the machine to its limits.

The x321's 40% incline burns your thighs and gasps for your lungs

An outstanding feature of the x32i is the slope. It ranges from a drop of -6 percent to a steep ascent of 40 percent, which challenges even the toughest mountain runner. During a pre-programmed workout, the treadmill automatically adjusts speed and incline, but you can make adjustments based on your fitness level. The slope adjusted evenly against the impact of running up and down. The same was true for speed. Changes were immediately applied and felt.

Many extras

The NordicTrack X32i is designed for performance and ease of use. The controls are intelligent on both sides of the display and on the control panel in front of you. There are a number of buttons on the left side of the treadmill that allow you to manually increase the incline while the buttons on the right side control the speed. Use these buttons to change the speed and incline in small or large steps.

NordicTrack X32i

Speed and incline are not the only parameters that you can change. You can also adjust the volume of the built-in speakers and the speed of the two fans at the push of a button and enjoy Bluetooth audio support. The buttons are easy to press so you can make changes without stopping the workout.

Additional extras include three different bars that you can hold when you need extra support, and a chest strap that allows you to measure your heart rate while you exercise. Finally, there is a magnetic safety switch in case you fall.

Quiet performance and more

The NordicTrack x32i is soft and quiet. Even at running speeds of 8 km / h or higher, I could hear the instructions for music and iFit trainer through the integrated speakers. If you want to be even more stealthy, you can connect headphones using the treadmill's built-in Bluetooth connection.

There is also a fan that keeps you cool. You can change the fan speed and angle during exercise. The fan works well on lower slopes, but is blocked by the handrail on higher slopes. Speaking of handrails, there are many of them you can hold on to, which is particularly important on higher inclines.

The touchscreen display increases performance

With a massive 32-inch display, the NordicTrack X32i hardware is ideal for iFit. The beauty of the surroundings can always be seen. I didn't have to adjust my view or turn my head – I could see the entire screen from edge to edge just by looking ahead. The display is a touchscreen that allows you to control the iFit software by tapping and swiping on the screen. The layout is intuitive and I never had any problems switching between the training library, the home screen or the calendar view.

During exercise, simply tap the screen to access exercise controls or pause an exercise. The buttons are very large, so I never had any problems making changes during or during the break. My only criticism of the display is that you can't use it to connect to an Apple TV or Roku to stream video. It was added to the treadmill for iFit content and iFit only.

iFit workouts from around the world

In the past few months I've hiked Mount Fuji, run in the Grand Canyon and climbed Mount Kilimanjaro, all from the comfort of my home in Maine.

These trainers are accompanied by iFit trainers who produce a series of impressive training videos in exotic and unique environments. The iFit trainer walks or runs with a camera operator and engages you in each exercise by speaking to you as if you were right there with them.

NordicTrack X32i

They not only encourage you during the training, but also share personal stories, inform you about the culture and history of the region and give useful training tips. The treadmill also adjusts the incline and speed depending on the terrain. You not only see the surroundings, you also experience them as close as possible.

Instead of being afraid of my treadmill workout, I was excited to see what the next iFit session has in store for me

The experience is a little worrying at first. It felt uncomfortable for this trainer to speak to me as if I were there, but I decided to embark on this experience and I am glad I did. Each training session was different – sometimes I got to know the culture of the region; In other cases, I've learned how to improve my diet and running style.

Sometimes the unexpected happened – a horse ran past or ducks waddled across the path. Instead of being afraid of my treadmill training, I was looking forward to my next iFit experience and was excited to see what awaits me. My time on the treadmill flew by. It was so much fun that I often did several workouts in a row and even took part in some one-day challenges where you complete a full multi-part series in a single day – it's so exciting.

Surprisingly effective training

An unexpected side effect when using the NordicTrack treadmill is that my fitness level has increased exponentially. Mainly because of the training regime, I made bigger gains when running indoors than when I ran outdoors. I am an occasional but regular runner. I don't have a professional trainer and I don't spend time researching training plans. I put on my running shoes and run without a specific plan. I was able to slowly increase the distance I could walk, but I could never improve my mileage significantly.

The iFit program and the NordicTrack treadmill changed my attitude to sports. It all started with the trainers who explained the why and how behind the training sessions. I was taught how important warming up is, how important it is to stay in good shape and what role nutrition plays.

Each training session is part of a multi-part series that guides you through different types of workouts. Many of the workouts build on one another and should bring you from point A to point B in your fitness.

Thanks to iFit trainers, I'm not only stronger, but also smarter in my training

Most training series started with interval training to improve your cardio fitness. The intervals were different – sometimes they were long, sometimes they were short and sometimes they were unique, like the ladder interval that gets faster and then slows down. There are also endurance sessions and incline workouts to increase your endurance. Every third or fourth session was recovery training. There is a reason for this method: This format not only keeps things interesting, but also improves your fitness.

I learned how to do everything in the breaks and take a break when calm is needed. I was also trained in relatively perceived exertion and learned to keep my exertion steady even when the terrain changed. These are basic training practices that I learned only when I started training with iFit. After six months with the iFit program and the NordicTrack treadmill, I not only feel stronger, but also smarter with my training.

Software could be improved

The iFit software drives the NordicTrack treadmill, and its touch-based surface revolves around this integration. When you start the treadmill, you'll be greeted with a list of suggested iFit videos and a growing library of training sessions organized in training series.

NordicTrack X32i

Unfortunately, the iFit software lacks important navigation functions. You have to scroll through the entire iFit training library to find training sessions. If the training you want is at the bottom of the list, you need to scroll and scroll to reach it. You cannot filter or organize the library by activity or trainer. If I want to find a running series by Hannah Eden, I have to look for her face in a video and scroll through everyone else's runs, hikes, and studio workouts.

The iFit software was also slow and occasionally buggy. On more than one occasion, the video froze during a workout and I had to reset the treadmill first. I also kept getting notifications about an update that was never installed. These problems were frustrating, but didn't affect the overall positive experience. NordicTrack and iFit have released a major update during my time with the machine, so I hope the user interface will improve over time.

Manual or card-based training

Although iFit is the star of the NordicTrack x32i, it is not your only choice for a workout. You can do a manual workout or load a workout based on a custom map. You can select an existing card workout or create your own workout by drawing a course on a card using the iFit software. If a street view is available for the map course you selected, you can view the street view images as you move along the course.

Online and third party integration

Not only is ICit a training video repository, it also tracks and saves every exercise so you can check how far, how fast, and how high you ran or hiked. You can also view this information online. The user interface is a basic list of your workouts and your statistics for week, month and year.

I wish there were tools you could use to track your progress for each workout. If I do the same workout every month, will my performance improve compared to the second? It is not easy to make this comparison with the iFit software. You can send your data to other platforms like Strava, but you need to download your training history to your computer and then manually import it into Strava, Training Peaks and another platform. There is no automatic synchronization.

Our opinion

The NordicTrack X32i is a powerful treadmill for hikers, hikers and runners. Whether you're starting your training trip or training for your next marathon, the X32i will meet your needs. The incline of up to 40 percent poses an additional challenge for every training session.

When set to its maximum, the x32i offers a workout that crushes the thighs when hiking or running mountains. Even if you don't want to be in the mountains, the selection of inclines offers a strenuous and varied workout that only a few treadmills can keep up with.

Is there a better alternative?

The NordicTrack X32i is one of the best treadmills you can buy, but it's not for everyone. It is a large treadmill that takes up a lot of space and its price may be prohibitively expensive at $ 4,000. For a little less money, NordicTrack sells both the x22i and the x11i with iFit integration and the same inclination of 40 percent. Both the x22i and the x11i have comparable performance, but a smaller display and footprint than the x32i. If you're looking for a treadmill that has a personal workout that is similar to iFit and that syncs automatically with Strava, consider Peloton or one that syncs with Zwift.

How long it will take?

The NordicTrack x32i is built like a tank with a reinforced steel frame and a powerful DurX Commercial Plus engine with 4.25 KWK. The treadmill should work reliably for many years. It includes a 10 year warranty on the frame, a 2 year warranty on parts and a 1 year labor warranty.

Should you buy it

If you want to give your workout a certain incline, the NordicTrack X32i is a good choice. It is a treadmill workhorse that allows you to train harder and work out longer than ever.
