Dyson Outsize Absolute+ Review: the ultimate stick vac

Dyson Outsize Absolute+ being used on a kitchen floor.

Dyson Outsize Absolute+

RRP $899.99

"The Dyson Outsize Absolute+ is one of the most powerful and versatile handheld vacuums on the market."

benefits

  • Powerful

  • Automatically adjustable suction power

  • Large selection of tools and accessories included

  • Larger cleaning head for faster vacuuming

  • Larger dust bin for less frequent emptying

  • Laser sight works wonders

disadvantage

  • Heavier than average stick vacuum, especially when used as a handheld vacuum

  • It takes 4.5 hours to charge the batteries

  • Expensive

There's no denying that Dyson has done more for the modern vacuum cleaner industry than any other manufacturer. It's single-handedly made vacuums stronger, longer-lasting and – if we're being honest – better-looking, and I say that as one person who's had the opportunity to review dozens of vacuums and several Dyson models over the years.

The Dyson Absolute+ offers near unparalleled cleaning.

The Dyson Outsize Absolute+ has a 150% larger dust bin, 25% larger cleaning head and swappable batteries for longer cleaning sessions of up to 120 minutes.

Dyson's Outsize Absolute+ is a new cordless stick vacuum designed to bridge the gap between the lightweight, hyper-portable cordless machines it's already known for (like the V10 and V15 models) and larger, more powerful stands. In this case, the Dyson Outsize Absolute+ has been specifically designed for larger and more carpeted North American homes, so it's been outfitted with a bigger bin, a bigger cleaning head, more suction and an extra battery, as well as some new gadgets like a laser. I had the opportunity to try the Dyson V11 Outsize Absolute+ in real life at my home for a few weeks. It was like this.

The Dyson Outsize Absolute+ has a 150% larger dust bin, a 25% larger cleaning head and swappable batteries for longer cleaning sessions of up to 120 minutes runtime compared to the V10 and V15 models.

You get quite a lot in the package; There's the main vacuum handle with an integrated dust bin and filter, plus a small screen on the back that shows battery life and different cleaning modes.

What do you get with Dyson Outsize Absolute+?

There are three main cleaning heads and several accessories.

The Dyson Outsize Absolute+ with three attachments of its many attachments.

There are so many accessories that I had a hard time using them all.

XL cleaning head with high torque

You could call this the main cleaning head, and it's the largest brush head option in the pack. It uses Dyson's Dynamic Load Sensor to automatically adjust power to different floor types, allowing you to deep clean between carpet and hard floor without having to switch accessories.

Laser Slim Fluffy cleaning head

With its cozy space-age name, this tool must be something special, right? It is. A fluffy brush is primarily designed for hard floors, as these fluffy rollers capture and attract fine dust particles, not scatter them, thanks to anti-static fibers. The laser, which is generated when you turn it on, shines light horizontally across your floors and catches particles so you can see them better.

hair screw tool

The hair screw tool's tapered anti-tangle brush bar captures long hair, fibers and pet hair, but is also designed to prevent hair and fibers from tangling around the roller. This happens with almost every other vacuum cleaner. With its cone shape, the hair should eventually make its way from the brush to the bin.

There are so many accessories that I had a hard time using them all. As for other attachments and accessories, there's a combination tool with a brush, crevice tool, and dusting brush, as well as an extra battery, cable, and some fasteners and clips. All parts (including filters) are washable.

Battery life and charging

One of the selling points of this vacuum cleaner is that it has 120 minutes of battery life. The Dyson V15 or V11, on the other hand, comes to 60 minutes. Is that because Dyson's battery technology has improved? In a word: no.

The Outsize Absolute+ comes with a second battery. This doubles the stated runtime. You'll need to have your second battery charged and ready to really make use of those 120 minutes; otherwise it is about 60 minutes per battery.

Fully charging one of the batteries takes a long 4.5 hours.

Cleaning with Dyson Outsize Absolute+

I figured adding lasers to your vacuum would be about as relevant as adding lasers to sharks. color me wrong

This vacuum cleaner is extremely easy to use and although it's noticeably heavier than the Dyson V15, it's still easy to transport. The tools and cleaning heads simply snap in and out without pulling or binding.

The Dyson Outsize Absolute+ cleaned all the surfaces of my house really well. It drives dirt out of carpets (like dried dog paw prints) and removes pet hair well; It's really amazing to see what ends up in the dustbin. It easily breathes in dog hair, crumbs, dirt and dust on hardwood floors.

When it comes to the two new specialized cleaning heads, I have to say that I was blown away by the Laser Slim Fluffy cleaning head. To be honest, I thought adding lasers to your vacuum was about as relevant as adding lasers to sharks. color me wrong

The Dyson Outsize Absolute+ uses a laser to indicate dirt and dust on the floor.

The laser does a stunning job of making seemingly invisible dirt, dust and particles glow. When I first used it I had already vacuumed the day before and thought there would be nothing to see. Boy was I wrong.

The green laser cuts across the ground surface at an oblique angle just right to illuminate dirt, debris and dust bunnies like small Christmas trees. It made hard-to-see dirt easy to see in both low and bright light conditions.

The Hair Screw Tool worked great. After attacking a dog bed, some upholstery, and then even the carpet, the tapered brush has absolutely no hair wrapped around it; no detangling necessary.

I think I should save some ink for the main cleaner head. To say it works great and cleans a large area quickly seems sort of an afterthought after writing about its siblings.

Emptying the container is easy and clean

One of the nice features of the Outsize Absolute+, which has been carried over from other models, is the point-and-shoot function for emptying the reservoir. After removing the tools, simply press the lever on the side to flip open the bottom of the bin and it will fall straight into the trash. No need to touch dirt or get your hands dirty.

Our opinion

Overall, the Dyson Outsize Absolute+ is by far the best large format stick vacuum on the market today. It cleans great and I can't complain about that. From carpet to hard floors, it's got you covered. It's definitely bigger and covers more area than the other, smaller Dyson models. I will say that it's heavy and especially less maneuverable when trying to use it handheld (e.g. with the mini motorized hair screw tool) but I think that's the price to pay for the performance and the larger trash can is payable. The new laser sight and anti-tangle head are ridiculously versatile additions that work amazingly well.

Is there a better alternative?

Dyson is quite the leader when it comes to vacuum cleaners of all kinds, so is there a better option? Probably not. But if you want to save some money on a similar vacuum, Dyson's other models like the Dyson V10 have similar features and technology at a cheaper price. I also recently tried the Samsung Jet 90 stick vacuum and while it's pretty good, it doesn't have the same power, size advantages, in-line construction or Frikkin laser as the Outsize Absolute+.

How long it will take?

I bought one of the first Dyson corded handheld vacuums about 18 years ago and it still runs great. Likewise, my Dyson V11 Animal model is over three years old and I've never had a single problem with it. I have every reason to expect the Outsize Absolute to have top-notch build quality.

Should I buy it?

Absolutely! If you need a new vacuum cleaner with no trailing cord but the power of an upright and amazing new and useful cleaning head, then this stick vacuum gives you the power to clean your whole home. With powerful suction for carpets, this vacuum cleaner can also pick up dust on hard floors.

Overall this is a great vacuum for my home which has a fully carpeted basement and all hard floors upstairs and I think this could finally give my older corded Dyson a happy retirement.

Roku Streaming Stick 4K Review: The Roku Stick To Get

Roku streaming stick 4K

Roku streaming stick 4K

RRP $ 50.00

"All the specs you want in a streaming stick, at the right price."

advantages

  • Payable

  • Easy to use

  • All the functions you want

disadvantage

  • Roku's advertising scheme means tracking

There's a reason Roku is the largest streaming platform in the United States. Okay, there are a couple of reasons. That it's cheap is one thing. The most expensive traditional streaming product (excluding the newfangled speakers) costs around $ 100 – and that before you factor in retail prices.

In reality, however, the $ 50 mark is more of the sweet spot. And there we are with the new one Roku streaming stick 4K, and his close cousin, who Roku streaming stick 4K +. Both are part of the Fall 2021 update, and both will play important roles in Roku's future roster – though they're not really the most important thing for Roku in terms of the company's overall business strategy. Yes, we will get into these weeds below.

But what you really need to know is this: for most people, the Roku Streaming Stick 4K and Streaming Stick 4K + will be the Roku sticks you should buy. Here's why.

Streaming Stick 4K and the secret of Roku's success

If you've never tried Roku, here's the short, short version: It's a company that has a range of devices – "streaming sticks," if you will, although the hardware is definitely more – that are inexpensive and simple so you can watch almost any streaming service you want to watch. Roku also puts a lot of emphasis on The Roku Channel, the ad-based channel that features dozens of series, shows, and movies. A disadvantage that spans the entire Roku ecosystem can be found here. Advertising means tracking. And tracking means that with Roku you are trading information about you and what you see. In return, you get shows and affordable products. That's the deal.

The hardware comes at a variety of prices, neither of which breaks the bank. The cheapest option is the Roku Expresswhich is now the only one that doesn't support 4K resolution. The Roku Streaming Stick 4K is at the top of the inexpensive part of the range and has been given a bit of a freshen up for 2021.

The internals have been updated, but otherwise the Roku Streaming Stick 4K offers the same Roku experience – only better.

What we usually call "speeds and feeds" is new. That's technically speaking for important, but not exciting, improvements to the internal components. According to Roku, the new quad-core processor is up to 30% faster. These are just numbers on paper, of course. And if you don't let things go side by side, you will be forgiven if you say, "I can't say anything."

But when you combine it with some of the software improvements that it has helped streaming services over the past few years – and the new Roku OS 10.5 operating system – it makes a noticeable difference. Incremental, yes. But that's a good thing again.

Wi-Fi has also been upgraded a little with the new hardware. Technically, it runs on Wi-Fi 5, also known as 802.11ac. This is the previous generation Wi-Fi standard, but also a lot fast enough in terms of speed and probably fine for most people who have no idea (or want to know) how their home network actually works. It also uses MIMO dual band if you take care of that. If you're not worried, that's fine. You still want it. Roku also says the radios and antennas have been redesigned on the hardware side and you'll see a better choice of access points in the latest operating system. So there is.

A nice touch here – and I like that compared to the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max, for example – is how the power cord is where the wireless antennas are plugged in, which is important to note. It lacks an HDMI extender in the box, however, and that could be an issue with some TVs.

Elsewhere on the spec front, you have Dolby Vision and HDR10 for high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos for audio. Of course, you need a TV and sound system that meets these standards, but that's a lot of licensed firepower in a $ 50 device.

Otherwise, it's pretty much the same Roku experience you've probably enjoyed for years. It still works great. Just a little better. And it's still the only platform that gives you access to Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant in addition to Roku's own assistant. Plus, you can still use Apple's HomeKit or AirPlay 2.

The plus in Roku Streaming Stick 4K +

There is one difference between Roku Streaming Stick 4K and Roku Streaming Stick 4K + and only one difference. And that is the supplied remote control.

Roku led the in spring 2021 Roku Voice Remote Pro. It still looks and feels like the premium Roku remote, with the headphone jack for private listening and customizable buttons for voice commands in addition to the new hands-free mode. But this one dispenses with the replaceable batteries for a rechargeable setup. Better for the environment, bad if you hate the occasional recharge of your remote control.

It's deceptively light, which is probably only the case if you're used to the voice remote control with removable batteries. But it's also not insignificant to lose about 30% of the weight of the older remote with a headphone jack to cut things down to 2.8 ounces. That doesn't make up for the fact that it uses micro-USB to charge, which is almost unforgivable in 2021. It is long time to tear this association off.

The Voice Remote Pro also has a feature to help you find the remote control if you lose it. Which is nice.

It was a little strange to see a screen on the first boot asking me to put the batteries in the remote before pairing them. That's a very minor nitpick in Roku's otherwise excellent onboarding process. But it's a stupid one that Roku should have caught before sending the Streaming Stick 4K + to reviewers. That said, it is entirely possible that it will be fixed for retail setups. But don't be surprised if you see this confusing screen. The 4K + does not need to install batteries.

  • 1.
The Roku voice remote control Pro.
  • 2.
The on / off switch for the always listening microphone of the Roku Voice Remote Pro.
  • 3.
Roku requires you to actively confirm that the remote is listening.

Roku gets it right with the idea of an always listening remote control.

However, Roku makes up for this misstep by handling the hands-free mode. If you don't want a remote to always listen for your command, you can press the slider to turn it off. And Roku explicitly spells this out on one of the early onboarding screens – and asks you to confirm it works before proceeding with the setup. The on-off slider is color-coded, and removing it will sound an audible alarm if you turn the microphone on or off in addition to an on-screen notification. Very nice.

Speaking of hands-free voice control, it works flawlessly. Say "Hey, Roku," then say an order and it'll be quick. In other words, it works, and it works fine.

Is that worth the $ 20 premium over the Streaming Stick 4K? It is your call. Note, however, that the Roku Voice Remote Pro costs $ 30 if you buy them individually.

Roku streaming stick 4K.Phil Nickinson / Digital Trends

Our opinion

The Roku Streaming Stick 4K won't change the way you use Roku if you're a current Roku user. It won't change the way you stream videos if you consider switching. What you are getting here is an iterative update for a product that has been undergoing iterative updates for years.

That is actually a good thing. It shows that what Roku is doing is working. It works for Roku as a company – it offers inexpensive hardware that still makes money – and it works for you as a customer, giving you an easy way to see the things you want to see.

Just know that a large part of the future Roku strategy will be based on advertising, both in traditional home screen display ads and in ads sold on the Roku channel. In fact, Roku made about $ 532 million in the platform category – basically everything but hardware – and $ 113 million in the gamer category in the second quarter of 2021.

Going forward, it's really more about what Roku can offer you – be it on The Roku Channel or any other streaming service that Roku is taking a cut from – and less about what you watch. The Roku Streaming Stick 4K is a mass product. It's what I would buy if I wanted to spend less than $ 100, but it's also not something I would think about too long, and it shouldn't be.

Are there alternatives?

Secure. Roku has a variety of devices that all work the same but bring different specs and functions to the game. For example, if you just need to be connected to ethernet or have expandable storage, check out the latest Roku Ultra. If Roku just isn't your thing or you don't like the idea of what is now an advertising company in charge of your viewing habits, then maybe the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max is for you.

Or if you want more power and a simpler experience – something that will last far more years than you might expect – then check out the latest Apple TV 4K. Or if Apple just isn't your thing, then Nvidia shield and Android TV can be the way to go.

Basically it is an alternative when it is connected to a television. Choice of dealer.

How long it will take?

Can't tell you It's a piece of plastic, not a plant.

But at $ 50 retail, you're going to get more than what you are looking for if you've been using the Roku Streaming Stick 4K for a few years. And if you get the Streaming Stick 4K + with the better remote, it's an even better deal as this remote can be used with any other Roku device you buy in the future.

Should you buy it?

Secure. If you love Roku and don't want to jump on the better Roku hardware I would get this.

Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max Review: The New Standard

Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max

Amazon Fire TV Stick Max

RRP $ 55.00

"Of course it's an iterative update, but one that makes the Fire TV Stick 4K Max the one you can get."

advantages

  • Better processor and WiFi

  • Including the new remote control

  • Still extremely cheap

disadvantage

  • Based on an outdated version of Android

The most important feature of a streaming stick is probably not listed on the side of the box. It's not how much RAM it has. It's not the size of the on-board storage. It's not if it's 4K (OK, it's about more than a little), and it's not the Wi-Fi speed or the processor. And it's not all apps that it has access to.

The main feature of the new Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max is the price. This is what really determines where it not only fits into the Amazon Fire TV range of devices, but also its place in the overall system against its closest competitor, Roku, which has its own line of relatively inexpensive streaming sticks. Sure, the specifications determine the price. But tell us how much you want to spend and we'll tell you which streaming device is best.

Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K MaxPhil Nickinson / Digital Trends

And the Fire TV Stick 4K Max, while it's an iterative update (there's certainly nothing wrong with that) and though it has quite a bit to say (which we take a little problem with), is definitely the Fire TV Stick to buy.

Here's why.

The Fire TV Stick Max is mostly a Fire TV Stick 4K, only better. It's more max.

What's new in Fire TV Stick 4K Max

It's not just that Fire TV stick. It's not that Fire TV Stick 4K. This is Max who we can only assume is one step above plus but still below extremes. It's a silly suffix appended to a product that is itself mostly an iteration of an iteration. This is how these streaming sticks work. They have certain features at certain prices so you are guaranteed to make money no matter what. More on this below.

Amazon's own comparison chart does it pretty well. The Fire TV Stick 4K Max has a few more points than the Fire TV Stick 4K, which is three years old at this point. And they are not unimportant boxes.

The Fire TV Stick 4K Max is the first in the Amazon range with Wi-Fi 6, also known as 802.11ax. That means it uses the latest wireless standards if you have a Wi-Fi 6 router, or be ready when you do. You shouldn't necessarily expect warp-speed WiFi, but you have more than enough bandwidth to get the job done. Wirelessly connected to one Eero Pro 6 (conveniently another Amazon-owned product), I moved up from 250Mbps downstream, with ping times between 20ms and 25ms. In comparison, the previous generation Fire TV Stick 4K reached around 200 Mbps downstream over Wi-Fi 5, with similar pings.

For those of you who say, "Just take the ethernet adapter!" – let me hang you there. You will almost certainly want to just go ahead and use WiFi with the Fire TV Stick 4K Max Amazon's own Ethernet adapterwhich is not included in the scope of delivery anyway. This adapter – which provides both power and the wired network connection – is a 10/100 device, which means that it will hit the top on a 100Mbps connection anyway. And in my case, that means I've got about half the speed I've seen with Wi-Fi, not to mention nowhere near using my real gigabit fiber connection.

In other words, stick with the Wi-Fi 6 built into the Fire TV Stick 4K Max. It's a lot good.

Elsewhere, the Fire TV Stick 4K Max ships with the latest Alexa voice remote control, which came out in April 2021 and has been slightly redesigned with a few extra buttons and functions.

The Max also has a bit more RAM, which is important since it's an Android-based device and Android still needs all of the RAM it can get. Not that 2 gigabytes is a lot, and it's only half a gig more than the Fire TV Stick 4K. But we take what we can get. And the processor has also been updated to a quad-core Mediatek MT8696 with 1.8 GHz. If that's important to you, good for you. If you think you can notice this about the older Fire TV Stick 4K, chances are you're lying, an engineer, or running the two devices side by side. The point is, these are important and obvious updates, but certainly nothing that will change the way you watch TV on Amazon Fire TV.

In other words, it looks and acts much like the Fire TV Sticks of yore. Just a little better. If you're like us and dumb enough to have more than one Fire TV Stick lying around, it's easy to forget which one is which. I flipped back and forth between the 2018 Fire TV Stick 4K and the new Max and immediately had no idea what was plugged in without actively checking. In fact, near twins, the two are personally stuffed, with the only visible difference adding the nickname "Fire TV" to the case. The older stick only has the Amazon smile. There's really no difference on the screen.

And it now supports picture-in-picture if you need to.

Amazon Fire TV stick 4K max.The Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K Max 2021 looks exactly like the Fire TV Stick 4K 2018 – apart from the logo. Phil Nickinson / Digital Trends

What else is in the Fire TV Stick 4K Max

If you currently own an Amazon Fire TV Stick, you know what to expect. You have no doubt used the new Fire TV OS user interface that was introduced in early 2021. That it is still based on Android 9 rather than something newer (Android 12 is just about to be released) is a point of contention for some, and at least a small cause for concern. But given that we're talking about Amazon here, rather than a no-name importer who just puts Android on some hardware and does it for a day, we're a little less concerned. That said, Amazon has to get into double digits sooner rather than later, and it's only a matter of time before our patience really wears off.

The other basic specs remain the same as the older Fire TV Stick 4K. It still supports 4K resolution with Dolby Vision, HDR10 + and HLG for high dynamic range and Dolby Atmos for audio. Of course, your TV and sound system must also support all of these if you want to use them.

If you want to use Alexa with your Fire TV Stick 4K Max, do so using the Alexa remote. This is unchanged because there is no microphone in the stick itself.

There's nothing new on the app side either. Amazon's Fire TV OS still has access to all of the things it had access to, like Netflix, Hulu, and Apple TV +, to name just three.

Amazon Fire TV stick 4K max.Phil Nickinson / Digital Trends

Buy it to future proof it, not because it's exponentially "better".

Our opinion

If you're looking for a new Fire TV Stick, the Fire TV Stick 4K Max is for you. Period.

I would even recommend it to the Fire TV Cube for several reasons. First, it's about half the price, which in itself should be a no-brainer. If all you need to do is have Alexa hands-free (like not having to hit the voice button on the remote first), you can get yourself a Max and a new Echo Dot and still have plenty of cash to buy your lunch. The second is that the Fire TV Cube was updated a few years ago, which means older internals. That's not a big deal with devices like this, but it can play a role over time. Newer is almost always better.

Are there alternatives?

Secure. Anything that connects to a television and displays video is an alternative. And the Fire TV Stick 4K Max's biggest competitors are the other Amazon Fire TV Sticks.

Where the Fire TV Stick 4K Max fits into the larger scheme of inexpensive streaming sticks – that is, around $ 50 – really just depends on the ecosystem. Would you like Fire TV? Or do you want Roku? Or what about Chromecast with Google TV? Everyone has their merits and falls into the same price range. In general, I'd argue that Fire TV OS is the more mature and sophisticated operating system, while Roku is simple and easier to navigate. Both of them are littered with ads and other ways to spend money, and both are also heavily driving their own ad-based video-on-demand services. Amazon has IMDB TV and Roku has The Roku Channel. Choose your poison. Chromecast With Google TV is a beast of its own. If you are familiar with Android, this is where I would look.

The bigger question I have is what happens to the rest of the Fire TV Stick storage space. Amazon has told us that it has no intention of stopping selling the old Fire TV Stick 4K, which at the time of release is $ 15 cheaper than the 4K Max when it's not on sale – and you no doubt will find for less money rather than later. I'd say it's worth an extra $ 15 for future proofing Wi-Fi 6 and the newer remote that sells for $ 30 alone. Add the upgraded processor and memory and it just makes sense. You get a bigger bang for your buck. And presumably Amazon will either phase out the older Fire TV Stick 4K or maybe even rearrange the entire line. It still has the Fire TV Stick for the same $ 40 price as the older Fire TV Stick 4K, which doesn't really make sense as it hits 1080p resolution. Then there's the $ 30 Fire TV Stick Lite. That's not a huge spread, so don't be surprised if Amazon consolidates things at some point.

How long it will take?

We have no idea. It's a little piece of plastic and metal. But in general, Fire TV Sticks lasted much longer than necessary. Not that we're fans of setting money on fire, but these things are cheap. They have no moving parts, they probably don't get moved too often, and are pretty much commonplace items right now. They are impulse purchases. In the rare event that one of you fails – and you don't hear about it very often – the chances are that you could simply buy a new one without thinking too much. For everything else, there's everyone's favorite post on Troubleshooting Fire TV Stick issues.

Should you buy it?

Have you read the 1,700 words above? Yes sir. The Fire TV Stick 4K Max is the one we would get.

Samsung Jet 90 Stick Vacuum Review: Dust Can’t Flee This One

Samsung Jet 90 Complete battery stick vacuum handheld

Samsung Jet 90 Complete Stick Cordless Vacuum Cleaner

"Dust cannot escape the suction power of the Samsung Jet 90 Complete Cordless Stick Vacuum, and no dirt is disposed of."

  • HEPA filter catches fine dust

  • Versatile set of cleaning tools

  • Including charging station

  • Lightweight construction

  • The brush can still get tangled up with hair

  • 3.5 hours charging time for the battery

Cordless vacuums seem to be all the rage these days. Businesses have paid a lot of attention to them because of their powerful suction, versatile accessories, and ability to fit into the tightest nooks and crannies. The Samsung Jet 90 Complete Cordless Stick Vacuum has all of these basic features and takes home air quality seriously with a clean station that removes all debris – so dust and allergens don't get back into the air after every cleaning. Do you really need an automatic disposal system for your vacuum? Let's find out.

Easy contender grabs a punch

Compared to other vacuum cleaners I've tested, the Samsung Jet 90 Complete Cordless Stick Vacuum is one of the slimmer options out there. It's certainly lighter and not that bulky, which is always good, but I'm surprised at how slimmer it looks than the mighty Dyson V11 Torque Drive. Weighing 6.17 pounds, it can be easily handled for all types of cleaning.

Samsung Jet 90 Complete base station for battery stick vacuum charging stationJohn Velasco / Digital Trends

When cleaning floors and carpets, I like how the Turbo Action Brush can be expanded to accommodate everyone – big or small, it can be adjusted correctly. With a suction power of 200 watts, the Jet 90 perfectly catches embedded debris and dust that is stuck deep in carpets. I was impressed with the amount of fine dust particles that could be caught with the 5-layer HEPA filter system, but you should set the suction power to Max for best results. Although it is capable of pulling in hair, I still noticed a few small tangles with the Turbo Action Brush.

It is powerful enough to suck deeply embedded particles from carpets.

For hardwoods and tiles, the soft brush supplied has a gentle surface that does not scratch the floor. It's also particularly handy for picking up cat litter from the floor as it holds the trash in place when the brush runs over it.

It may seem quaint, but the Samsung Jet 90 Complete Cordless Stick Vacuum's 0.8-liter trash can is a bit larger compared to its competitors – the Dyson V11 Torque Drive and LG CordZero A9 have a 0.75-liter and 0.75-liter trash can, respectively 0.39 l.

Samsung Jet 90 Complete cordless vacuum cleanerJohn Velasco / Digital Trends

Overall, it's an excellent all-rounder that can tackle almost anything. Sure, its suction isn't as strong as the Dyson V11 Torque Drive, but it has enough pressure to suck deeply embedded particles from carpets.

Ingeniously designed accessories

Samsung offers a range of accessories for the Jet 90, including the Turbo Action Brush, Soft Brush, Splitting Tool, Brush Tool, and a combination tool that is ideal for furniture. The design of these accessories shows a degree of ingenuity as some of them can be articulated beyond their standard actions. For example, you can use the splitting tool to get a little more stretch – so that even more suction is applied.

What's even better is that the package includes a charging station. We're seeing more and more cordless vacuums offering this, but it's gotten better here because it includes some accessories too. However, only two accessories can be hung on the base station, so three must be placed elsewhere (you can of course attach one of the brushes to the vacuum).

However, once it clicks into place, the 2850 mA battery will recharge. This battery is designed for 60 minutes on a full charge, which is exactly what I clocked with the vacuum. However, it takes a whopping 3.5 hours to charge. There is actually another dock that can charge a spare battery, but you'd have to buy one separately for $ 150.

Do you really need an automated disposal system?

Car disposal systems are becoming more common among robotic vacuum cleaners. It only makes sense because they are self-sufficient autonomous and clean, which is good for us as the entire cleaning process means very little to no interaction from us humans. Now it looks like the trend is coming to cordless vacuum cleaners too.

The Samsung Jet 90 is the first cordless vacuum cleaner I've tested that has an optional automatic disposal system, the Samsung Clean Station. It can be mistaken for a charging station, but has a 5-layer HEPA filter system that sucks in the contents of the Jet 90's trash can so that dirt and debris do not get into the house. It can be difficult to empty a trash can over a trash can.

With the Samsung Clean Station, however, you simply take the garbage can out of the vacuum cleaner and put it in the compartment – and it sucks in the contents at the push of a button. As simple as that.

But is that really necessary? I honestly don't think so, mostly because it will get you back an additional $ 199 for picking up the Samsung Clean Station. You just might be more careful emptying the vacuum cleaner's trash can. For those who are special or more prone to dust, this is an option.

Our opinion

The Samsung Jet 90 Complete Cordless Stick Vacuum is a great model that has what it takes to make it an effective home cleaning tool. It's expensive at $ 500, but it's still less than the comparable Dyson V11 Torque Drive ($ 600) and the LG CordZero A9 ($ 550). Alone you get a solid cordless vacuum that is easy to maneuver, swallows dirt, and comes with smartly designed accessories and a base station.

How long it will take?

It's mainly made of sturdy plastic, which adds to its lightweight feel. It feels well made and solid, so it should last a long time. Samsung offers one 1 year limited warranty that covers parts and labor due to defects.

Is there a better alternative?

If you prefer suction power, the Dyson V11 Torque Drive can clean carpets more thoroughly. In addition, the brush does not tend to tangle hair there. You pay more, but suction power is hard to beat. Alternatively, the LG CordZero A9 offers something similar with its package while inserting a spare battery to give users a longer cleaning time.

Should you buy it?

Yes, you will be amazed at the fine dust particles it can absorb and contain.

LG CordZero A9 Kompressor Review: Always Hungry Vacuum Stick

LG CordZero A9 compressor holds it in hand

LG CordZero A9 compressor

"With a big appetite and a bunch of tools, the LG CordZero A9 compressor is ready to be cleaned."

  • Versatile set of attachments

  • Free-standing charging station

  • Dust container can be compressed

  • Two batteries included

  • Larger pieces of dirt can cause problems

  • The LG ThinQ integration is a little useless

Cordless vacuums seem to be all the rage in household cleaning these days. They bridge the gap between portable handhelds (think dustbusters) and traditional poles by offering the best of both worlds. While Dyson clearly stands out from the crowd with its legendary suction power and meticulous engineering, several other companies have tried to capitalize on this trend.

LG is no stranger to small appliances and it's clearly a focus for the company. The CordZero A9 compressor seems like an ambitious proposition because of its versatility, but it must first and foremost prove that it can clean. Not only clean well, but also very good.

Versatile cleaning options

The LG CordZero A9 compressor does not immediately deviate too far from the well-known designs that we have seen on other cordless vacuum cleaners. What sets it apart are the various accessories, the charging station and the batteries that come with the package. This model covers all bases as carpet, hardwood and furniture cleaner.

The accessories consist of the following: a universal nozzle, a punching nozzle, a splitting tool and the combination tool. Using the universal nozzle felt uncomfortable at first, until I realized that you could extend the length to make it more comfortable to use when vacuuming carpets. I also like how effective the power punch nozzle is at pulling smaller pieces of dirt off furniture, but it's almost useless for hair-strewn scratching posts because it has problems sucking up larger bunches of fur. This is due to the close spacing of the hard plastic brush in the nozzle.

A base from which to rule them all

Unlike other cordless vacuum cleaners, it has a free-standing charging station for added convenience when storing and charging the accessories. Most other battery sticks come with a base that you need to attach to a wall or something else. However, this is a separate unit. I think it's great that I don't have to attach it to the wall. LG certainly spent time designing the charging station, given all the little details that go with it. For example, there are clamps that make it easier to manage the charging cable so it doesn't get messy.

Not only does it charge the vacuum while it's plugged in, but there is another compartment to charge the spare battery. Dyson's V11 torque is designed for a running time of 60 minutes. This corresponds to the running time of a single battery for the LG CordZero A9 compressor. If I have two batteries, I can suck much longer. There's nothing worse than an empty vacuum while you're in the middle of your cleaning routine.

Good extraction, large dust container

What I like about the universal nozzle is that I rarely see hair growth. It is also intended to fight hardwoods and carpets. Picking up larger pieces of dirt or debris such as cereal can be problematic because the opening is not that wide. Instead, I am forced to raise the vacuum a little so that it absorbs them. For other smaller and finer bits of dirt, it's a champ – they often vacuum them up on the first pass while a second does the job.

The washable components and filters of the CordZero A9 compressor show that LG designed this model with minimal maintenance in mind. The five-stage HEPA filter system is said to filter 99.99% of dust and dirt. And yes, it has built-in Wi-Fi with LG ThinQ integration that not only tracks the cleaning process but can also run diagnostics to reveal potential issues. While it's a nice touch, if you keep track of how long I've spent cleaning the modes, the overall experience doesn't make sense.

LG Cordzero A9 Compressor Rating 1 out of 9

LG Cordzero A9 Compressor Rating 2 out of 9

As the name suggests, the LG CordZero A9 compressor can squeeze its trash can with the lever on the device. This corresponds to a maximum capacity of 33.8 ounces versus the 25.6 ounce capacity of the comparable Dyson V11 Torque Drive. It's useful in the sense that I don't empty it as often as other vacuums, but it doesn't have the best emptying mechanism. There is a lever on the bottom that opens the lid to dispose of the contents. However, I find that my hand often gets dusty because it is right next to the lever when it is opened.

Our opinion

It's an admirable accomplishment from LG as the CordZero A9 compressor is quite a punch down at $ 600. It stands out in every category for being an outstanding cordless vacuum cleaner in the high-end sector.

How long it will take?

Despite the mostly plastic construction, this vacuum rod has a considerable processing quality. As mentioned earlier, many of the components, including the filter, can be washed. It comes with a 1-year limited parts and labor warranty. However, the intelligent inverter motor has a 10 year limited warranty.

Is there a better alternative?

The Dyson V11 Torque Drive can clean better and has more suction, but you pay an additional $ 100 for it. There is also its sibling, the V11 Outsize, which offers a larger dust bin and replaceable batteries.

Should you buy it?

Yes, the LG CordZero A9 compressor moves right between performance and features to make it a well-rounded option.
